RTL

In 2005 I had a RTL after having seizures for 19 years.  I now have a 2 year old and 3 year old.  I have recently started having seizures again.  I don't know if it is stress related or what.  I have them before my period most of the time.  I have had 3 this week but i am really stessed from college and Christmas shopping.  I'm afraid they are back for good.  Is a second surgery a option? Also, for anyone that has had more than 1 surgery, did the second 1 work and did you have to have all the test again?

Hello,

I've had epilepsy since 2002 from a bad case of encyphalitis ,which left me with alot of scar tissue in my right and  left temporal-lobes. Medications not controlling things well enough for one particular lesion in right. I needed to have a lobectomy(resection) performed on that area in 2005. I was told that there was an 85% chance that I would have less severe if not any seizures from the lesion that was operated on. I have seizures that exist from both sides that are problems as well rarely happen still from the lesion operated on. I found this all out about two months ago, after I was brought to emergency from a status episode. I had to stay at the monitoring unit for a video eeg for five days until I was stable. That stay I had found that I have stress induced seizures in monitoring, just so you know that they are possible. They happened a few times when I was having some tough issues and just stressing out in a telephone conversation with someone arguing. I was introduced to Vimpat while I was there, to take along with the other meds that I take already. If things don't go well with Vimpat . . .which things are going well right now. I might get an extension on the resection that I already had 2005. Also I might go ahead and get Neuropace a responsive neuro-stimulator installed in my left-temporal-lobe. So I hav'nt had the surgeries yet, but I will in two to three months from now.

Please don't let my situation scare you . I just wanted to answer your questions. I hope that this could be handled with maybe a medication that you hav'nt tried. To let you know that stress can cause seizures. To also let you know that a 2nd surgery is a possibility, but you likely need to be monitored with EEG scalp electrodes(glued to the head), is what I had. I"ll pray that you can have this issue solved with little or no problems at all.

Good Luck and take care , Johnny : )
