Hi,

I am 23 and my father is 61. I am extremely close to him and 12 years ago he had a seizure which no one could identify why. He was banned from driving for 1 year. Since then he had no health problems. A few months ago he was diagnosed with Atrial Fibrillation (irregular heartbeat) and was due his Cardioversion on Tuesday. However, on Sunday night/Monday morning I woke to hear my mum screaming for me. I went into their bedroom and switched on the light and my dad was having a seizure of some sort. I dialled 999 and in the mean time put him in the recovery position. I was so scared. I thought he was dying.

He stayed in the hospital for a night and they couldn't figure out why its happened. Both seizures were when he was at the end of his sleep. It is unrelated to his irregular heartbeat. They have banned him from driving and will put him on medication for epilepsy.

I am now so worried for him and I can't sleep at night incase he has another. I am freaked out at every little sound I hear coming from his room at night. I feel so upset at night remembering what he was like the night I called 999. I don't want to sleep and I'm scared of what will happen.

Can anyone give me any advice? I know its only been a few days but I am usually a very strong person looking after everyone and giving advice etc but I feel so petrified and I don't know what to do. I don't want to tell my dad because it will make him worry.
