Right Temporal Lobectomy

Hi all-For anybody that might be interesting in pursuing brain surgery,  I'd be happy to discuss my situation.  I had a right temporal lobectomy in December, 2008 at Tampa General Hospital (GREAT staff) and have been seizure free ever since.  Surgery was an unsettling time in my life, but I felt as though it was my only option.  I realize there's no guarantee I won't have seizures in the future, but, for now, I feel better than ever.

I'd love to be able to tell a story like yours, I've been dealing with Epilepsy since I was in my late 20's. My life has been going steatily downhill since then. I'm now 42 and at my last Neuro appointment, he started me on Keppra along with Lamictal I've been taking that the dosage was upped at my appointment before then. At that time, I asked him about surgery. His reply was that if adding Keppra didn't work, he would then talk about surgery. I've been experiencing new side-effects from Keppra but have not really searched the forum to see if other's experience the same side-effects. I've lately been experiencing moments of deja-vu as if at times there are moments of "been there, done that" kind of feelings. I don't know if it's just something new to me or if it's a side effect from the Keppra. I have been sleeping more, and at times am more depressed than I already have been for years. I have called his office before and left messages and he's been good about returning calls or having someone in the office call for a re-fill, etc. I'm going to call Monday morning to let them know about the side effect and ask what I should do. If this add-on med doesn't work, I'm going to bug him more about some type of surgery or to refer me to someone else to get a second opinion. This is getting old, my life has been at a stand still for too long, something has to get better. I'm not afraid of surgery when the subject comes up again. Drugs have not given me any control over my seizures or my life.

Seruzies

Our stories have many commonalities! I'm 46 & been through to E ringer too. Diaganosed in my late 20's after dealing with E for many years, I finally decided to have surgery at Cleveland Clinic 3 years ago.  Would be glad to share or lend an ear anytime!

NEURON...

Hi Robin,

My 24 year old son is scheduled for surgery in February.  I'd love to ask you about your experience after surgery. I know noone is the same, but I'm nervous.  Peter (my son) doesn't seem to be, but I think he is just hoping for the best and trying to stay positive.  His seizures started 4 years ago and he hasn't been unable to drive and has had to deal with all the other turmoil epilepsy brings on. You can email me at vincentfarina@fishpainting.net thanks for your time.  Hope your doing well.
