Take control of your epilepsy and seizures. Seizure management has never been easier.
TAKE CONTROL TODAYHello Everyone,
I never had a problem with seizures all my life until after my Meningioma (Benign Brain Tumor) was removed via surgery. Now I get Simple Partial Seizures. I always hear of people saying they get Simple Partial seizures and when they describe them they sound nothing like what I get.
When I get a Simple Partial Seizure my right leg, right arm, right side of my face, right foot, or any combination thereof goes numb and tingling and this can last for hours. For instance my right leg has been numb since last night at 2am and it is still numb and tingling 12 hours later. Now when this happens I can still control my body, it just has that sensation of numbing and tingling. I also get really tired, lethargic and feel some dizziness. Also they say that Simple Partials only last a couple minutes!
It just seems like no one else experiences this and that concerns me. I feel alone and worried. This is stressing me out to no end.
Please let me know what your simple partials are like for you.
Thanks very much.

Hi Maria,
I also began having s/p seizures after radiation of a meningioma. I was diagnosed in 2002. As the others have replied.. I to have the aura and then a flushing beginning in the groin area and then moves upwards on my left side.. sometimes I have a metal taste in my mouth. I am now having c/p seizures.. seems the radiation caused scaring.. and is continuing. I have never heard of a s/p described like yours.. I would check with your MD... Hope you get some answers.

Hello,
I myself get frequent Simple Partial Seizures, also some really strong ones out if the blue. Its weird the (intro) is scary and deja vu and alert but unable to respond. I do have a second or two to grip befor hand. That really gets my wife with the mind set of seizures making you twitch on the floor.
She is coming aroung in big steps. Instead of getting mad cause I'm ignoreing her, to realizing that something is wrong. Usally within 2 min's I will be ok.
The deja vu thing is intense I try to explain afterwards but cant remember anything. During the whole thing I know exatly whats coming next. This is hard for me, even knowing all who read know what I'm talking about.
Maria ,
I have had Epilepsy since 2002 from an attack of ensephylitis (viral) ,but during the time of diagnosis they thought that I had menengitis at first. During the begining, my seizures were constantly getting worse and medications were not controlling my situation at all for 3 years. As 2004 was coming around I had talked with a group of neurologists from two different hospitals who were very concerned about my health. Being that I had alot of lesions from the initial attack and accumulating more damage from more seizures. After a few EEG's and MRI's they had discovered I needed my right temporalobe operated on. In one specific area I was consantly having gran-mal seizures.
After I had the operation, I was having APOS (acute post-operative seizures) the gran-mals, which were in the specific area they operated on... and also was having the same simple-partial seizures that you are having. Well I have seizures pretty darn close ,but not quite as long with maybe a little twist. My simple-partials that I have are effecting the left side of my body being that the opposite side was operated on. These seizures never existed before the operation and they started shortly after.
All of my seizures start with an aura , this one starts with an aura that I explain as a light headed sensation from the neck up. Then a few seconds later it starts, the whole left side of my body from head to toe starts to tingle like pins and needles ( like you feel when a body part falls asleep) and I explain also as if you were in the shower and only half of your body is getting showered on. The difference in mine might be...a few seconds later my hearing changes as if you were in the dentist on laughing gas. It is all distorted with an intense echoe and my body is still numb tingling like crazy. I sit down safely, just in case my seizure gets worse since I never know what could happen next. Except mine last anywhere from 30 seconds to 1-2 minutes long at most and maybe, but rare to last much longer than that though. I could get up and move around if I need to but I try not to. I feel a little dizzy sometimes, I have these just about once or twice a day. Now you have got me worried... really worried, because yours being that they last as long they do. They are to be considered a status seizure, I assume that your doctor would label them as. Typically though a status-seizure is any seizure that will last over a certain amount of time, that depends on what type of seizure it is, or if it is a cluster non-stop many different seizures. I have had many status seizures but mine are status gran-mals, that have lasted from 15 minutes to 5 1/2 hours long. Status complex-seizures too and all the status seizures that I have never were as much of a problem before my operation either. They all just started to happen rescently over the past few years since the operation. I know it can be tough after going through everything that you have gone through. Maria .... I hope and I will pray for you that the doctors can solve this problem that you are having right now. It is going to be taken care of don't let it bring you down.
You hang in there and take care. Oh and I forgot to mention I had one those while I wrote this!!!
Love, Johnny
Hi Johnny,
Thank you so much for your very informative and kind reply. You provided me with a lot of good information. I am going to ask my neurologist about "Status Seizures" and "Cluster Seizures".
I've had people tell me that it could be scar tissue that creates that. My R leg finally stopped being numb at 10pm last night.
This is scary stuff especially since I had no major health issues for the first 33 years of my life.
Your optimism inspires me.
Thanks Johnny
Hey Maria,
You are welcome ...and I hope that information will help you out. Like I said ,I know it is tough dealing with the situation you're in. I had noticed so many simularities in the post you had put up and I was extremely worried for myself too. It has been a stressful time for me now, since I may need to have another operation. The one thing that gets to me the most is that I take over 6200 mgs. a day in anti-convulsants and they have not been controlling my seizures. My neurologist was giving me a hard time because I was hung up the side effects that the meds. can have. He told me that causes alot stress just worrying about the side-effects and he was right by telling me that. I had just spent a week in Video EEG Monitoring Unit and I was having what is called ,stress induced seizures. "No kidding" those can happen too.
My doctor gives me alot of credit though, because I do learn alot about epilepsy and keep myself updated with all the information. He is a doctor at the Cleveland Clinic ,where I have been a patient during the whole time I've been dealing with this. One thing is, I never let this bother me any more since no one patient is exactly the same as the next. This is first time I had found someone dealing with a seizure as close and similar to the simple partials like mine. Except you have to deal them for a longer time than I do. You are not alone, like I said before and I'll say it again. You hang in there and don't let this bring you down.
God Bless and take care , Johnny
