I recently lost my insurance and have been on Keppra and generic Keppra for the last six years. So far I haven't really had any problems with it but my dosage was recently elevated due to memory loss. After speaking with my doctor, through his nurse, and informing him that I can no longer afford Keppra he is changing my prescription to Dilantin. Of course I will have a month of adjustment, but I am a little concerned about the transition. I have had previous discussions with him where he warned me that changing my medication from one that was working was an unwise idea. I know he is doing because of the extreme price difference, but I am worried about any side effects or if it will work as well. Has anyone made this transition previously and if so did it work out okay?

I Lost my prescription coverage a few years back, and was unable to afford lamicitol. Needed to switch to Dilantin which has the build up period. Two weeks into the change, I dropped right in the middle of our works break room. Woke up on a strecher, in an ambulance.
Have been doing ok with alot of Simple Partial Seizures. Dilantin levels in my blood need to be within a range, to little I go right into full blown episodes. To much i loose my close up sight( I keep a pair of reading glasses in my desk drawer). My apitite shot, seriously depressed.
You can go have blood work, and test current levels. Or do as I do, I can tell just by the way I feel. Dont take one nights dose, am fine.

From Keppra to Dilantin? I did just the opposite. I take 1500 mg of Keppra XR at bedtime and I couldn't be more happy. Just need to watch the caffeine and sport drinks with Keppra.
