Take control of your epilepsy and seizures. Seizure management has never been easier.
TAKE CONTROL TODAYI was diagnosed with Temporal Lobe Epilepsy in August after suffering a grand mal seizure in late July. For a year and a half I had been having simple and complex partial seizures each month (right around my period) but never had a clue it was actually seizures. The symtoms were just so strange I never mentioned them to anyone. I honestly thought I was just going crazy! After the grand mal I came home and done some reading and realized what I had been suffering from all those months were actually seizures!
My neurologist started me on Keppra, 1,000 mg a day and since August I have been seizure free and have honestly felt like a new person. This week, the seizures have made a comeback. Not nearly as bad as they were before, no de-ja vu feelings, smells, tastes, just feelings of disorientation, sweating, etc. I am to see my doctor again tomorrow. Such a let down after I had been doing so well. :o(

Hello,
Do not get down on yourself. As long as you can get your grand mal seizures under control, that is the key.Epilepsy has a funny way of recurring even after it subsides for some time.
With all do respect to Mark DO NOT jump into surgery before you have exhausted every single medication and alternate option you have tried out there including natural remedies such as herbs and neurofeedback. If you look at Marks blurb he has only been seizure free for a month and that is not long at all to recommend something so huge to anyone.Especially an invasion of the skull.Everyone is different.
Blessings :)
I too, had seizures when my period was due. It could be that Keppra is not suited for you. I have been on 15 different meds. over 30 years. Now, I'm taking Depakote ER and am seizure freefor 4 years. Many years ago I wandered about having a hysterectomy. My doc said no. It could work just the opposite. If Keppra works for you, otherwise, you may need to have the dosage increased. Let me know how things go for you!!
Well first off, I DO NOT recommend surgery. Surgery is a last resort, and from what I understand you are from that. It seems like your medicine is working fine, and it could just be daily life that triggered your seizures. Listen, I was pretty much in the same situation as you were, and I actually went 4 years without a seizure. I'm currently 21 years old, and have had 2 seizures in the past year. However, I'm not going to change my medicine nor opt for surgery, because I understand that I'm a college-student, and I truly believe that my medicine (Zonegram) works well for me.
I hope you read this, and I hope things work out for you.
hey if meds dont work go for surgery...i recommend it! i just had a temporal lobectomy done finally after 21 yrs of seizures and now im seizure free (so far for a month) and thats my record. i got complex partials daily and meds did nothing. just mentioning it!
Hey, if your seizures happen in relation to your period you need to look into catamenial epilepsy--they're triggered by hormones. So seizure drugs can cover up the problem sometimes, but maybe treatment with a hormone will be more effective. Good luck!
