The past couple weeks I've been having events at night during sleep I can't quite define. I don't have the characteristic bitten tongue they speak of, but I've been very sore with charlie horses in odd places, which I figure are partial seizures at night, but without the tongue biting - after about 5-6 seizures, 4 (?) observed, I have never had a bitten tongue - so I guess that is reasonable.
But also interspersed I've been having what are somewhere between I guess "sleep terrors" and seizures? They don't occur as a dream exactly, but, for instance, two nights ago I woke up screaming because I had a distinct feeling someone was grabbing my arm. Sensations like this have happened several times in the past couple weeks. Also some powerful "nightmares": can't breathe, being held down, limbs bound.. but without quite a "plotline" per se as dreams typically have. Although sometimes there are some visual cues associated with it: one I was in a hospital, emergency room (in the dream) and being restrained somehow
But I can tell the difference between dreams and non-dreams, and these things have been remarkably non-dreams. Sometimes I might even lean to explanation of having ghosts in my bedroom or something, but I don't believe in ghosts in quite that fashion.
I've been diagnosed an epileptic for nearly a year now and have been on Dilantin (500mg/day now) since diagnosis. Since diagnosis I've had about 5 clear seizures. Guessing, I might have had a handful of others near/around/prior to diagnosis (one event prioro to diagnosis resulted in me somehow going from my bedroom into the bathroom in the middle of the night and waking up on the floor in a pool of blood with a gash on my forehead, presumably from the towel rack - not having any recollection really of how I got there) - and I live alone so there is not quite any sure way to tell
I'm 39 and having just now read up a bit on "sleep terrors" my age doesn't really seem to offer much support to that theory.
Could these be partial seizures?
I had my blood levels checked within the past couple months, which resulted in upping my Dilantin, and then again to make sure the levels were good. But could this be indicative of need for another dose-upping?
Anyone else had any seizure/events like this?
