Severe leg pain/tingling and seizures

I am at wits end for my daughter. Diagnosed 4 years ago. Have not yet found a med that works for her. Lately she has constant seveer leg pain/tingling. She has to get up and walk around saying Ow OW OW OW  till it subsides.  Yesterday she had 7 eposides - 2 of which went into seizures.  Today looks like another day of the same.  First leg feeling at 5am and again on bus en route to school. Has anyone had similar expereices?????

We are not getting anywhere with our docs.

Thanks.

Re: Severe leg pain/tingling and seizures

oh my gosh! i thought my daughter was the only one. in fact tomorrow (thurs.) she is seeing her neurologist for the 80th time regarding leg pain. she is unable to go to work (sheltered workshop). this has been going on for at least 5 years and no one knows what is happening. when it occurs my daughter gets a very worried look on her face, she blinks a lot and rapidly and she has a very irregular gait if she can walk and sometimes she can't walk at all. i am beginning to think it is anxiety related or depression. it has become much more frequent since she has transitioned from school to work. my daughter is MR and can't really tell me much about her pain. please feel free to contact me.  ~karen

Re: Severe leg pain/tingling and seizures

My daughter  is 16 also is developmentally delayed and cannot communicate very well.  She has been having leg pains and arm pains for 4 years.  She has epilepsy, but her last known seizure was in 2004.  We saw a neurologist last week and he is running some tests to rule out other disorders.  She was diagnosed with cerebral palsy as a toddler (She is adopted), but I think something else is going on with her.  She has great difficulty walking in her walker now.  She bends forward suddenly and falls or continues to hold onto the walker and hurts her shoulders as she hangs on.  I did not know seizures could cause pain until I looked in this forum.  I appreciate any insight someone might have that would cause my daughter's walking and pain to be getting worse.  Anytime she is sitting on a chair very high off the ground or in a vehicle, she is very anxious that she will fall...like she cannot depend on her muscles not to 'startle'  and fall off the chair.

Re: Severe leg pain/tingling and seizures

I was on topamax for a while I had major tingling and leg cramps it hurt to touch my legs . Sometimes they would shake and jerk like they were seizing on their own. I also noticed muscular twitching which hurt after days of it doing it . It stopped when I changed meds. I don't know if it side effect or some muscular seizures like myoclonic . But I still get myoclonics an muscular twitches on new meds but they don't hurt at all .

Re: Severe leg pain/tingling and seizures

My father takes Topamax and has found it to be relatively helpful. My mother used to massage his calves at night, and he always loved that! Epsom salt baths seem to alleviate symptoms, as well!

Re: Severe leg pain/tingling and seizures

My daughter has the same thing but in her foot. After a couple of years it was finally diagnosed as senory seizures.Lamictal has improved them alot. She went from having several a day to going sometimes a few weeks without one.

Re: Severe leg pain/tingling and seizures

Have you thought about it being a muscle cramp? Some meds have side effects of those. My dughter is complaining of it, too. Now she says it is in her foot. She has all kinds of seizures & now has bloody urine. Just a mess & all they can say is tests. AND MORE TESTS! No answers though.

Re: Severe leg pain/tingling and seizures

I think i had one too.....it starts off like tingling but then it went to my muscle hardening untill it ached i almost yelled....it stayed like that for a while.....my leg and toes froze.....i noticed a few years back that if i positioned my toes to do a specific motion they would stay like that untill i could controll them......but the pain was to much too bear......the only thing my brain thought of was the pain of my leg and how to make it stop.....nothing else

Re: Severe leg pain/tingling and seizures

Hi,
Anybody knows what is it exactly? I have had this pain from last 4 years. It has appeared about 10 times in my knee. Out of those 10 times, 2 have been converted to a "mini-seizure". Its such that I just fall down unconscious.

Re: Severe leg pain/tingling and seizures

I had (maybe still do) have stuff like that. I have had Epilepsy since i was in 4th grade (9th now) My leg would start out as either sharp pains or Numbness. and with in 2 or 3 hours i would start seizing. It can even start with the Tingling. Thats how my worst 1 started. They only last for about 4-5 mins before i get completly passed out (one even killed me! but the doctors got me) I have meds that control it now so it doesnt happen alot. Though i still get feeling like every day. If it wasnt for the meds then i would probably have one again. It happens about 2-3 times a week. Very painful. Left me emotionally and physically scard for life.

Yes! This is happening to my 10 yo daughter dx'd with BRE

Until this past Friday night, her seizures have been infrequent and completely nocturnal. Friday night she had episodes of extreme leg pain, would last for a minute, then she would say that she couldn't feel her leg. 5-10 minutes later, the pain would come back. She was screaming and crying, it was really hurting her. I didn't think it could have been seizure activity, but that is what neuro is thinking and she wants to up her meds today. I am waiting to get an appt with her, as my daughter is having serious issues with her current medication...we may have to switch AGAIN. She also has a lot of abnormal bruising on this leg...caused by meds ? Caused by seizures ? I have no idea...it's so hard because dr's can only experiment with each patient. Everyone is so different and reacts so differently. It's frightening.
