Can exercise induce seizures?

Sun, 11/16/2008 - 07:00
All the doctors disagree with me because of the research out there but I gave up running last June because I had a seizure while running. I suddenly collapsed, right before I was going to cross a busy street. The doctors argue that aerobic exercise is especially good for epileptics because it normally relieves stress and depression. I agree with this but I want to be safe when getting back into it again. Once I had a small seizure on a bicycle as well. What does everyone else think? Have you had similar experiences?

I know this goes against all intuitive thinking, but I read a study which said that it's NOT the over-heating that causes  seizures, it's the cooling-down period.  Take this for what it's worth, but you might try giving your cool-down a little more time.

Ive had tonic-clonics for 6 years now, brought on mainly by stress and extreme emotion( watching a fight the guy i was going for won, I jumped up and was very happy next thing I know I'm waking up to my wife and mother in-law picking her glass coffee table out of my face and the sounds of an ambulance en-route) But I have noticed that when I perform any physically demanding work/exercise and Im not in the right state of mind I have a seizure, I have had 3 seizures shoveling snow!

I have had several seizures after exercise.  In fact, the last four seizures (tonic-clonic) I have had were after exercise.  I am trying to exercise again with a heart rate monitor and I am worried.  This last week, I started exercising again slowly and have already had an increase in seizure activity.  Myoclonic jerks are more severe, and have had to basically lay down all day twice.  I didn't over-exercise and I am not in terrible shape.  There is a correlation.
