Take control of your epilepsy and seizures. Seizure management has never been easier.
TAKE CONTROL TODAYI read a lot of posts about "bad" behavour associated with Depakote. I am in the same boat as all of you. Jake is almost 6 and maxed out on Depakote, 375 mg 3 times per day. Zarontin did nothing for his absence seizures so we have pushed depakote to the limit. We really only had control when he reached max dosage and we saw just one a day for 20 days. That has since ended and seizures have increased. His behaviour has become intolerable and he will start kindergarten in the fall. I am just taking off one pill/week right now and going to try the LGIT diet. Have any of you found success with keppra or any other drug for absence seizures? I feel that I have a better chance of the diet working than any other drug at this point. I have been told for the last 5 months that his mood should not be affected by depakote since it is a mood stabilizer. Well, I am hoping I get my son back as I start to wean it.

Cherie:
We have daughter 5 years old (this year) and has been on Depakote for last 3 years - 125mg twice a day. From the time, mydaugter started on depakote we have NOT seen any sign of absence seizures. When the last eeg was done, it was found that she has seizures when she is transitioning from wake to sleep state. So we are continuing this medication. However, we are seeing symptoms associated with anxiety, poor eating habits, scared/ timid of things, doesn;t like loud motor bike or lawn mower sounds, moody and cries for every little thing and adamant. I am wondering if all these are due to Depakote or is it natural 5 year toddler behaviour. I would like to stop the medication or put my daughter on another. Waiting for psychologist / psychiatric evaluation.
Since your son has been on Depakote and is having "intolerable behavior" - Please share as to what you mean by "intolerable behaviour".
Thanks very much.
