Burning and tingling in hands and arms?

Does anyone have burning or tingling feeling in their fingers, hands and on up? I'm new to this and I don't know if its my medicine or something else. It's really scary!

Re: Burning and tingling in hands and arms?

Is it really a seizure? I had a tingling in my hands and legs at night and it almost reminds me of the anxiety or even the feeling of your foot coming out of the state of falling asleep. My Neurologist put me on an anti depressant in addition to my AEDs and it went away. This was about a year ago and I was on a study medication at that time.

Re: Burning and tingling in hands and arms?

i have tingling in my feet and all along the right side of my body that is constant.... i don't believe it is a seizure because it is constant... my neurologist doesn't think it is a seizure, either.... i think it is a side effect from my meds... i am on keppra and xanax for anxiety... also, i think you should be talking to your neurologist about these side effects... i am doing that with mine... if your neurologist helped you with a shift in meds, then it went away, it is for sure a side effect of the meds...

Re: Burning and tingling in hands and arms?

Good point - it is very important to talk to the treating doctor who knows the history and has examined a person. NOT all tingling and numbness is seizure related.. there can be other medical and neurological problems contributing to this.  Good luck and hope you feel better soon!

Re: Burning and tingling in hands and arms?

Well, depends. Topamax will create that burning/tingling sensation in you hands and feet for quite a long time. When I first started taking it I was aware of this and would suddenly feel as if both my feet were on fire. It was annoying but since I knew it was nothing I just ignored it. After a while that went away so when I do get the occasional foot or hand tingling/burning I get freaked out for a moment and then have to remember that my body is used to the Topamax but it doesn't mean it has stop doing every thing wierd it can do. There is a whole other thread dedicated to Topamax and the burning extremities, and it is a listed side effect, so if thats what your taking- no, it is not a seizure. If your not on Topamax, I'm not sure. You might want to go check the side effects of your meds. online. Pre-seizure is normal for me to get a slight tingling- like my hands and feet about to fall asleep- but the burning sensation makes me think its otherwise and the fact that your not associating happening near any other form of seizure activity.

Re: Burning and tingling in hands and arms?

I get the tigling/hot sensation in my right arm and right side of my face sometimes as an aura and sometimes before I go into a partial seizure or gran-mal. I've had that since I was 10 years old. The Tingling usually lasts between 5-30 sec. for me. So it may be that your having an aura or a small seizure. However if this sensation is a constant thing that does not go away it may be a problem with your med. one that you should have checked out.  Best advice I can give is to tell your Doc all the details of the episodes and then you can decide together where to go from there. I know its scary but dont worry, but dont let it get you down.

Hope this helps you and you start to make some progress :)  If you need anything else drop me a line.

I get that lots, I get the tingling feelings in my hands and feet, a lot at night, its disturbing to my sleep in fact.  To me, if feels like electrical impulses shooting out my hands and feet...very annoying.   I have complex partial seizures since I was 30, I'm now 48.

Re: Burning and tingling in hands and arms?

Sounds like possible side effects to meds......April/May 2006 I started taking Trileptal....can remember getting tingling sensations. However it could of been from several things.....going OFF Depakote OR when I STARTED the Trileptal, without getting more confused there were other circumstances....having said that.....it is Jun/July 2008 the tingling is there BUT not as strong of a sensation so I'm not sure yet what is the cause. However if your sensation gets stronger there is an underlining problem. Do as what your doctor would advise.....keep a journal and record how you feel that day--scale of 1-10. Take care.....

Re: Burning and tingling in hands and arms?

Can't beleive it. I'm not alone!Just wondering if anyone else  had had this experience as  I think I woke myself during seiure whilst sleeping last night.I had heavy tingling especially down my arms .I usually only get this before night siezures getting up in early hours but not one like this during sleep. I have always had vivid dreams but am sure this was real , I  tried to wake and it was difficult but  relieved when I did! I have been especially groggy past few days ,today especially and wondered if this was connected still feel quite"out of  it"? I was diagnosed with late onset/complex partial/left temporal lobe in 2004-5 but looking back on my earlier years though less frequent I am sure that I have had this throughout my life. Not as concerned but relieved someone else has shared these experiences and relieved they had not neccessarially been my imagination!

Re: Burning and tingling in hands and arms?

since you didn't say what your meds are, it would be hard but it could very well be a side effect of it or them.  With the Topamax, I get this in both hands and feet.

On anti-depressants, I get this as well - really bad - both hands/feet, arms/legs.

If you do anything repetitive with your fingers (like keying for awhile) or are pregnant, etc.. could be Carpal Tunnel.  Diabetes causes this in feet and toes really bad but some get it in the fingers as well.

You really need to speak with your Neurologist because it could be something totally aside from seizures themselves.
