Does anyone else feel like you know when your seizure is coming?

Topic:

Hey, I'm new...I've had epilepsy since I was about 11...I'm almost 18 now. Anyways, sometimes, most days when I'm about to have a seizure, throughout the day, I have these weird "feelings". I can't really describe it, but I think there is a word for it, like a warning signal I guess. I don't know if anyone knows what I'm talking about. But the feeling is really weird, like all of a sudden, I get the chills, and my body feels cold, and I get this weird feeling, almost like a da sha vuu, like I remember "thinking" this thought before, but then I forget it. I don't know...it's very weird, and I know I'm probably not making any sense. Anyways, I know I'm not having a seizure then because I am fully conscious and don't make any movements. But I might have a few of those moments through out the day leading up to my seziure.

Anyways, I was just wondering if anyone else got thos feelings, since I suspect it's related to my epilepsy. Or maybe you want to share any other ways you know you're seziure is coming on.

I have complex partial seizures by the way.

Yep

its called an aura. Some people can get it immidiately right before a seizure or a few hours. It just depends on the person. I get groggy and light headed that will useually be my first sign to take it easy then i get a nervous tingle sensation in my stomach... not sure if it because i know a seizure is comming or if its also an aura. I get TC/ absence.

i hope this helped

thanks. that's the word I was thinking of.  It's just weird, I don't even know how to explain mine.

Re: Does anyone else feel like you know when your seizure is com

 hope that helps

Yes, they are very hard to explain! For me, by the time the aura feeling arrives, it's too late to respond. Numb, de ja vue and an all over strange sensation. I have absence and complex partial seizures, anytime of the day.

I'm so glad we can all make "no sense together" and understand it! I have found this site to a great place for information and support.

Welcome and thank you for sharing.

Re: Does anyone else feel like you know when your seizure is com

I know exactly what you are feeling. So People do have arua. I have had seizures all of my life, the docters told my mom I was having fainting spells and would grow out of them. I didn't and at the age of 33 was dianosed with seizures. And then things started to make sense I would only get them once a year or if I was really sick. Triggers can be lack of sleep, Dehydratation, and stress.

I get an arua before a grand mal seizure it is very hard to discribe you are right about that but for me It's like a tingling feeling that starts in my hands and arm and increases in intensity and envolopes my body I will try to lay down imediately. And so times thats stops them. But I will usually have a seizure and wake up tried  look grey and be very weak and thirsty. It will take a couple of days to recover.

please forgive the spelling mistakes that is one of the areas that my seizure affect. Also my memory is affected

Re: Does anyone else feel like you know when your seizure is com

I've been having grand mal seizures since I was 14 (now 19) and
your right the feeling you get is hard to explain but I will try my
best. I'll feel a bit off all day and right before I'll sort of get a de ja
vu feeling, I won't remember what I was thinking or talking about, some
light headedness. Then all the sudden I can't talk, I don't know my
surroundings, I feel sick to my stomach, and then it starts to happen
sometime after that.

I've epilepsy for 30 years and finally figured out how to describe my seizures a few years ago. The seizures have changed throughout my life, but one thing has stayed the same - The numbing feeling in my stomach! As you can tell with everyone's responses, we all know exactly what you mean! Good luck, Diana

I sure do!

Hi music. Welcome to the community, you will find lots of great info and support here.

I also experience the deja vu as part of my seizures. An warning is usualy called an aura which is also considered a simple partial seizure. Not all seizures cause a loss of conscious or convulsions. You need to tell your doctor about these if you haven't already.

It isn't always easy to describe theses things but I found it very helpful when I first joined here to read other peoples descriptions. It realy helped me explain to my doctors what I was experiencing.

"it's very weird, and I know I'm probably not making any sense" You'll find here that you do make sense because we all "get it".

Take care and enjoy exploring the site, Colina

Re: I sure do!

Hi, I have recently been having seizures upon waking up from a nights sleep. I actually remember how I felt right before going into a seizure(gasping for air before blacking out) and will often have the same feelings randomly during the day but never a seizure following them. I get a numb type of feeling and a sense of deja vu, a tightness in my chest and jaw like I'm gasping for air and an almost light headed or euphoric feeling(I also get a blank stare like I'm zoning out). I also have sleep apnea and wonder if these feelings are a result of a poor night or multiple nights sleep because I also feel extremely exhausted all day while having these feelings. It is so hard to describe but it scares me every time and it's comforting to read some of these posts and see that I'm not alone.

Re: Does anyone else feel like you know when your seizure is com

Oh em gee yes. I used to have them often during the day but never actually had a seizure, just felt the aura. My doctor told me it was still a seizure and I should be careful of them. I am now on lamictal and I haen't had one in a while but sometimes at school if i'm nervous or tired I get nervous that i'll have an aura and sometimes i do but i try really hard and think that i 'm ok and i won't have a seizure. this site is so amazing and i'm starting to feel as if i'm not the only person who has these worries. people often ask me what my aura is like and i can never explain it. just know alot of us are just like you and are experiencing the same things. if you need someone to chat with i'm here for ya. :)

ooooh yes. you know when you look directly at the sun and then look away? i get that in my right eye and it pulsates. but i only have about 20 seconds tp get to the ground and yell at some one before the grand. we are really lucky when we can tell when they are coming.

If you go to http://my.epilepsy.com/discussion/990373 on this website, you'll find a "menu" of seizure auras.

They're varied (for example, my mouth fills with salavia and I get this disgusting metallic taste)but the good news is that they're usually a warning sign of an impending seizure.

The medical term for the feeling is an aura (simple partial seizure.)  The feeling of remembering something that never occured is de ja vu, which is your aura.  Be glad you have these experiences just before your seizures.  My seizures aren't controlled and I no longer have auras.  I need to wear a helmet to keep myself safe.   I would love to be able to show off my hair and live like I did when I was younger.  Auras are a gift....but might not last all your life!  Remember to thank God for your lovely gift.

So happy I found this
