Is it possible to psychogenically fall out of your chair like a sack of potatoes?

This is what happened to me today…

I felt awful all morning. Very very tired, and I just wanted to go back to sleep but I couldn’t because I was at work. I dove home for lunch this morning to let my dogs out in the yard, and as I was driving home I just felt dizzy and like I was loosing consciousness. So I make it home ok and let the dogs out, just feeling awful and dizzy like I need to sit down, but I stubbornly refuse. Finally I sit down on a high stool to eat a peanut butter and gram cracker sandwich, take one bite, and then the next thing I just fall off the stool and fall about 3 feet on to the hard tile floor like a sack of potatoes. I don’t think I lost consciousness, but I must have in order to fall off the stool like that.

I lie there for a few minutes and hope to God that I’m not about to die on the kitchen floor right then and there. Then I get up and go sit on the couch and just start shaking like a leaf. Then I calmed myself down, jammed the gram crackers back into my mouth and drove back to work, but I was so tired that I had to pull over for 15min to take a light nap because I brain was so fried.

All in all, it was one of the most horrifying experiences of my life, and I was so glad to have survived, that I was in an awfully good mood the rest of the day, except for that I’m totally whipped. I hope to God that it was psychogenic, because if it wasn’t then I think that my brain must be melting. I’m also not telling my doctor, because doctors are useless and they already think I’m crazy enough as it is.

I also noticed that when I have these episodes I have to make several trips to the bathroom to urinate and my mouth is parched. Does anyone else have that?

Please talk to your doctor and possibly find another one. A doctor told me my son was "faking it". On Halloween he fell off the back of a golf cart and was run over by a trailer attached. He had several bad injuries and lost a lot of blood. He could have been killed. According to several witnesses, he just fell over face forward - an apparent seizure or "drop attack". No injuries to his hands so it was an "unbroken fall". These appear to be key words to doctors. He is being checked out again by a cardiologist and a different neurologist. Please get this checked out! It could save your life. You could be driving when it happens or fall down stairs. You may also want to get your blood sugar checked or get a home monitor (home monitoring is best because you can check it when you have symptoms). I have had problems with low blood sugar and it sound similar to that but I have never blacked out. I have also had problems because of adrenal insufficiency which relates to the blood sugar issue. Even if it is not seizures, you need to find out the cause before something bad happens! Please take care of yourself!

He has now been diagnosed with Neurocardiogenic Syncope by a Cardiologist. Please check with a cardiologist as well. Hope you are doing OK.

P.S. Another Neurologist thought it might be Narcolepsy so that might be another thing to check out.
