Gabrielle began seizing at 6 months of age. A video EEG revealed focal cortical dysplasia in her right frontal lobe. We tried keppra, trileptal, and began working her up for surgery as we started phenobarb. We also used klonopin to attempt to reduce clustering. Mri, video EEG, and pet scans all revealed a right frontal lobe focus. She was scheduled for a right frontal lobe resection and the motor strip was to be spared. The surgeon saw almost continuous seizure activity when he opened Gabrielle's skull. He removed as much of her right frontal lobe as he could without disturbing the motor strip. There was still some aberrant activity when he closed our daughter up but the surgeon was as aggressive as he felt comfortable...
