My daughter, who just turned 3yrs old has had seizures since she was 6 months old has been taking Keppra for 2 yrs and started Lamictal about a 3wks ago. Ever since we started the Lamictal she has been beyond beleif hungry, all the time. She is never satifiyed. Our neurologist says this isn't a side effect of this medication and now wants her tested for a thyroid problem. Is anyone who is taking this medication or child taking Lamictal had weight gain and/or increased appetite? If anyone has experienced this, any feed back would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Jay

Thank you both for responding. It's great to see that there are other parents out there taking the same medication and experienceing different things you are going through and some are not. So that leaves hope that there are medications that are working for some and some are not.
Also, reading about other children and the challenges they are faced with makes me realize that my daughter is blessed to have the abilities she does have at this point in her life.
We did get the results of the blood work for the thyroid testing and it weas normal. But now we have an MRI scheduled for the 30th and maybe we'll know more then. This will be our 2nd MRI since she started having seizures when she was 6momths old, over 2 and half years ago. But I think my wife and I have decided to start taking her off the Lamictal for now. I hope that's the right choice, but my gut says it is.
Also, have either of your children had a sleeping problems or trouble getting them to go to sleep and sleeping less time at night?
I wish both of your families the very best and much progress can be made for your children's health. Thanks, Jay
Hello again. Morgan is a night owl. She wants to stay up all night long. It doesn't matter if your awake or not. Recently though she was put on topamax she is very active during the day and goes to bed at night around 10 pm which is a lot better then midnight or some hours of the wee morning. Sometimes she would stay awake all night and just want to eat. Then some mornings she will sleep until noon and I don't know if it is because she has been up all night. Maybe it is the lamictal. At first I thought she was going through a growth spurt, but staying up all night instead of sleeping like other kids. She's a wild one sometimes. Morgan is almost 2 I don't remember if I said that before. Take care, I wish you the best as well! Katie (Morgan's mom)
My daughter has been on Lamictal for awhile now. This is the only medication she is taking. I haven't seen an increase in her appetite. However meds effect each person differently.
hi there! My daughter has been on lamictal for about a year now. She s almost two. She is constantly constantly constantly hungry!!!I think it has to be a side affect from one of her meds and i think it is the lamictal! It is amazing how much she eats and the little time in between eating! She stays very thin as well and i don't know how that can be. Sometimes she will eat so much she will make herself sick, but that doesnt stop her. I don't understand docs sometimes kids are all different. Some drugs that make one kid not want to eat can make another eat constantly. I don't know sometimes I just don't understand where they come up with the side effects. Was your daughter in the keppra drug study? My daughter was for a year but the med didn't help her. I hope it is helping your daughter. Have a great day! Katie (Morgan's mom)
