Luddites everywhere decry technology, but thank God for digital video. Now anyone willing to pony up a couple of grand can produce a worthwhile cinematic effort, given that he or she or they (most likely) have the creative chops necessary.

A friend of mine, along with a friendly acquaintance and certified professional, and (soon) another friend each own $5000 cameras. We've already produced one short film. We're ready to begin production on another, and have plans to film several shorts this summer.

One thing that helps in a smaller community is that people are more likely to help out for free or just to be involved, which actually contributes to the spirit of the project.

We've just had an advertised meeting of interested actors, writers, directors, musicians, extras, and other people interested in being involved. Our little community is growing. Long may it wave.
