I am due to start an increased Keppra doseage from 3000 mg daily to 4000mg daily and just wondered if anyone has or is taking a dose this large and if so what effects did you have after the uppage? Generally any information regarding his massive dose will be really helpful. Thanx ~Cass

Cass,
I currently take 5000mg daily; 2500 twice a day. I have seen no noticeable side effects and have been taking this dosage for at least the last two years, or as long as I've been keeping my own personal records, with no change in the dosage over that time. I currently take it in conjunction with Zonegran and Lamictal. I've also combined it with Topamax in the past, among other anti-epileptic medications. I hope this information helps.

Wow for both of you that seems to be such very very high doses. I am just curious, how do you both feel taking such high doses? Do you feel like you are dragging each day? Are you very tired?
Now I know everyone is different. But I have lower doses than each of you but still pretty high. And I know each drug is different when it comes to take the doses.
But I feel like I am dragging and not as much alert as usual. I will be getting off my one med and that is why it is so high at the momemt for I just came down off of Keppra, I was only on it for about six months.
take care

I am tired now, but that is welcomed b/c I've had trouble sleeping lately...I don't feel like I am dragging, but I do notice the difference between 3000mg and 4000mgs. I've only been on this much for a month now and it takes as long for the initial side effects to wear off, so I am hopeful. I don't appreciate the weight gain or the insomnia....but it has been like a miracle drug other than that...

Thank you for your help. I take Keppra as a mono therapy with no other AED, just a mild anti depressant, trazodone. My neuro said that with Keppra the rule is to increase until it works, b/c it doesn't do much damage. It's good to see that in case it is increased again, there is someone else with a larger dose.
