Frontal Lobe Seizures and P.A.N.D.A.S.

My 2 year old son has been having seizures that occur mostly before he falls asleep or he is awakened 4-6 hours into sleep. They have also occurred briefly during the day; when he is in a relaxed state. The seizures that occur during the night are repetitive and can last up to an hour or so. While he experiences these seizures daily at home, it took 3 overnight eegs before some registered on the eeg and we are now told that they are frontal lobe seizures. We have been told that there is a connection between his seizures and P.A.N.D.A.S. as a result of having strep throat about 6months ago. Does anyone have any experience with P.A.N.D.A.S.- Pediatric Autoimmune Neuropsychiatric Disorder and a correlation with frontal lobe seizures?

I really don't know much about the correlation between PANDAS and seizures, but I found this website for you. Just looking at it briefly, it states that they are more common with TICS. You'll need to educate yourself on this more. One thing I would ask your doc is the possibility of adding melantonin. There has been research, and I think you can find it at this website, that it helps with nocturnal seizures.http://intramural.nimh.nih.gov/research/pdn/web.htm

p.a.n.d.a.s.

My daughter had a long febrile seizure at 7 months then a generalized seizure at 18 months. She would vomit every time before she went to sleep or if she was in her car seat she would stiffen then stare off and vomit. She was placed on seizure medication which helped a little but when she was 6 she had another seizure. Every seizure she had was 30 minutes or longer and needed Valium to stop them. By the time she was 9 she started seeing colors in one eye or the other and by 5th grade she started having tics. By the end of 6th grade she was consumed by the tics and the doctors did a ton of different tests but they ended up thinking she had possible P.A.N.D.A.S. They treated her with penicillin and that worked for a while but then things got worse and they suggested IVIG. The IVIG began to work and she was treated once a month for a year. It has now been 21/2 years and occasionally she still sees colors or has a really bad headache. We then give her penicillin and she seems to be fine. She had been seizure medicine free for the 2 1/2 years and is doing fine in school.

Hi, my son was diagnosed with pandas and frontal lobe seizures 4 years ago - he was put on penicillin for a year & a half and is now going back on it due to a positive aso titer and the reoccurrance of tic-like symptoms - how is your daughter doing now? does she still have seizures and please tell me what is IVIG? thank you very much for your help, Jack's Mom

Re: Frontal Lobe Seizures and P.A.N.D.A.S.

my daughter was diagnosed at age five with a frontal lobe seizure condition. she is now 17 and recently suffered from OCD type symptoms and depression. a PANDA test revealed high levels of STREP antibodies. she was put on a five day dosage of the antibiotic zythromax. we had her STREP antibodies tested again and they seemed to have lessened, but were still significantly higher than normal. over a 6 months period, her OCD syptoms subsided and in the past six months shows no signs of OCD. we have not had her tested for STREP antibodies recently but we plan to do so in the near future. she currently takes 300mg of dilantin daily for her seizure condition and it has been very effective in controlling her seizures.
