There are more than one million women and girls in the United States who are living with epilepsy. Many of the challenges facing women from menarche through menopause are unique. Epilepsy as well as antiepileptic medications may be affected by hormones and vice versa. Menstruation, fertility and other reproductive issues, pregnancy, possible teratogenicity of some antiepileptic medications, parenting issues, and bone health are some of the issues discussed within this section. Current research is presented to expose old myths and support optimal care for women with epilepsy.
