TAKE CONTROL TODAYIn young adults, Topamax is usually started at 25-50 milligrams (mg) per day. Every 7 to 10 days, the amount can be increased by 50-100 mg per day as required (if side effects are not troublesome) to a target dose of 200 to 400 mg per day, divided into 2 doses.
Patients over age 65 generally require a lower initial dose and particular caution with any increases.
The doctor occasionally may suggest checking the level of Topamax in the blood to see whether it falls within the range that is usually considered appropriate for the dosage taken.
