For adults, Vimpat is usually started at 50 milligrams (mg) twice a day. The dosage can be increased to 100 mg twice a day after a week, then 150 mg twice a day for a week, then 200 mg twice a day. Dosage usually would be continued at 200 mg twice a day (400 mg per day total). For people who are likely to have medication side effects, the drug may be started more slowly. On the other hand, some patients who need to have seizures controlled very quickly might increase the dose faster than usual.

How a person should take the drug will be different depending on a number of factors. Make sure to get written instructions from your doctor on when to take the drug and how much to take at one time. Also don't increase the dose faster than recommended by your doctor.
