Carbamazepine is one of the most widely used and effective medicines for epilepsy treatment. It can be used alone or with other seizure medicines to control complex partial seizures and generalized tonic-clonic (grand mal) seizures.

The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) in the United States has approved it for these uses in people of all ages.
