Community Forum Help

The epilepsy.com Community Forum is a place where members can interact with one another through a series of messages which are viewable by anyone on the website. Typical messages on the Forum include questions about epilepsy and/or treatment options, discussions about epilepsy awareness, and other general communication. It is an open environment for visitors to discuss whatever is on their mind! All visitors can read what has already been posted, while users must be logged in to post or respond to threads.

Members can access the Forums by clicking the Community Forum button within the left-hand, blue "My.epilepsy.com Community" navigation bar. Once in the forum, the middle section of the page displays the list of active topics within this section. Further down, you will see a list of the most recent forum activity, including the latest and the most popular forum discussions. By clicking on the title of any Forum Topic, you can jump directly to the listing of all threads appropriate page for that forum. From this point, you can use the "Preview" link to see a snippet of the conversations in each discussion, and/or click on a discussion link to go into any of the active discussions posted in this topic. If you are logged in as a user, you also have the ability to “add a new comment” as a follow-up to the message you see or start a new thread!

How do I post a new Forum discussion?
The quickest way to start a new discussion is to click on the Community Forum button in the left-hand navigation, within the "My.epilepsy.com Community." If you are logged in, near the top of this page you will see an orange "Start a New Discussion" button. Complete the form with your desired title, topic, tags, and content. You can then click “Preview” to review or post or if you are already happy with the content, simply click “Submit” and it will appear on the website.

How do I reply to another user’s forum topic?
To post a reply, you need to be on a page viewing the particular message to which you wish to reply. You can arrive on these pages by clicking on the topic title links throughout the My.epilepsy.com Community, and you must be logged in as a User to post a reply.

Just below the message, you will find a series of links. To post a reply to the first message in a thread, you’ll see a link titled “Add a new comment.” If you want to reply to a message other than the original in a thread, the link will read “Reply.” By clicking on either of these links, you will be presented with a form to fill out with your reply. You can then click “Preview” to review and post, or if you are already happy with the content, simply click “Submit” and it will appear on the website.

How do I edit a post? Logged in epilepsy.com members can edit only posts that they originally write.

  • To edit a 'parent' thread, or the first post in a thread, an Edit tab can be found at the top of the post. Click this button to edit the body of the text. When you are done, you may preview your edits and then click on the 'submit' button.
  • To edit your response to a 'parent' thread, click on the Edit tab found at the BOTTOM of your response.
  • How do I browse through the Forums? There are a number of ways to browse through the Forums, depending on where you are within the My.epilepsy.com Community. From the main Forum page (http://www.epilepsy.com/forum), users are presented with a table of information: each “row” contains a forum topic, the total number of discussions within that topic and the total number of comments within that topic. Clicking on the "Preview" link by each topic name will give you more information about the topic, including a brief overview of the content and the information about the last post in this topic. If you click on any of the topics links, you will be presented with the discussions within that topic, from which you can view the individual posts.

If you are viewing an individual topic, you’ll find an additional navigation tool that is useful. Appearing above the topic content, you will see the following format:

These links can be used as navigation “back” in the organization of the website. That is, ‘Home’ will take you back to epilepsy.com; ‘My.epilepsy.com Community’ will take you to the main My.epilepsy.com Community homepage; etc. These links show you how “deep” you are on the website, and are useful to quickly jump to another section within the Forums.
