Dr. Joe Sirven Appointed Editor of the Professional Site of Epilepsy.com

Epilepsy.com comprises two sites, one (epilepsy.com) for consumers and the other (professionals.epilepsy.com) pitched towards epilepsy working professionals. The broad shoulders of the prior Editor, Steve Schachter, supported both. With the change of editorship to me, I requested appointment of a second person to edit the professional site, while I focused on the consumer site. The Epilepsy Therapy Project, parent organization of epilepsy.com, fortunately agreed. Our top choice for this position was Dr. Joseph Sirven, who has accepted the Editor-in-Chief role for the epilepsy.com professional site.

Dr. Joseph SirvenDr. Sirven is a distinguished epilepsy clinician, practicing at the Mayo Clinic in Phoenix. He has published numerous studies and reviews of clinical epilepsy. Relevant to his editorship, he has extensive teaching and writing experience. He chaired the creation of the on-line version of the American Epilepsy Society textbook, Epilepsy Education Program, which was designed for medical students and residents.

Dr. Sirven authored a second edition of a textbook entitled Clinical Neurology of the Older Adult and he also is coauthor of a text with an accompanying DVD about Video EEG Monitoring. Currently, he is chair of the Quality of Life Committee for the Epilepsy Foundation of America which involves oversight of EF publications. He is particularly qualified to carry the epilepsy.com professional site to new levels and we welcome him.

Robert Fisher, M.D., Ph.D., Editor-in-Chief
