My son started having seizures that we recognized at age 7. Once we saw him post ictally, we knew we had seen this before! He started treatment and we got on the nasty epilepsy roller coaster! Several meds, side effects, continuing partial seizures.

We were sent to DC to talk to Senators and Congressmen about epilepsy 3 years ago. This was a highlight for him finally meeting other kids who have been through similar things. His peers at home were tormenting him, teasing and hitting him in the head to try and bring on seizures. The parents did not feel they needed to stop this. Pastor tried to teach these kids, I tried, Sam tried, we spoke to parents and nothing was working. We finally moved on to a new group where Sam was fully accepted. These kids saw him have a long seizure and met it with concern and friendship.

Sam and I have gone back to DC two more times and he really appreciates how well they listen to all he has been through. He feels that others can learn from his story. He has since been through a misdiagnosis and removal of medication for 3 years. It was the most difficult time in our lives. Many tests, a few new doctors and no help until August 31, 2005. We finally have him back on medication.

We have homeschooled him for 6 years. The flexibility works well for him. He thrives on learning at home.
