Little did I know that while Katie and I
Were enjoying the beautiful Atlantic Ocean,
Our ultimate joy had turned to a life-threatening disaster.
I barely remember wildly kicking
As some tube was jammed down my throat.

Finally in disgust, a doctor said,
“We must remove the water from your lungs,
You’ve had a seizure in the ocean and almost drowned!”
Then the doctors starting talking amongst themselves
And the picture began to take shape … before I was sedated.

I awakened to Katie’s face at my bedside,
And said to her, “It was heavenly, my buddy … my buddy.”
Yesterday, I stepped into that very ocean.
Only then did I realize the incredible energy Katie must have summoned
To drag my body from the depths of her ocean to its rocky shore
To see me live … once more

What ever gave her such incredible strength
Will always be a mystery to me
And why Katie is my savior.
