"I LOVE to Dance!" — ETP Purple Dance Choreographer, Avra Liverman
"Just think dozens of teens, all over the United States, throwing dance parties to fundraise for ETP" You Can Host a Fundraising Dance Too!
|
Hi! My name is Avra. I'm 15 and just finished my sophomore year of high school. I had my first seizure 4 days before my 14th birthday. Since my diagnosis of Juvenile Myoclonic Epilepsy, I have learned a lot about the different types of Epilepsy and how it affects so many people around the world.
I know first hand the negative side effects of the medications and the fact that so many people aren't controlled with the therapies available to them. This is why my family and I decided to fundraise for the Epilepsy Therapy Project.
I LOVE to dance and all my friends love to dance! So, it seemed like a good idea to organize a fundraising dance. I was pretty nervous at first. I thought… "what if people think it's lame?" "What if no one comes?" Well, it was crazy successful and everyone loved it!!! The Dance itself brought in a little under $4,000.00. My parents sent our fundraising letters asking friends, family and customers to support my Dance by making contributions to ETP either online or by check. We were amazed at the response. At this moment, we have raised just over $19,000.00!!!!!
You can do this too! Looking back, it really wasn't that hard and I'm happy to share exactly how we did it. Just think…dozens of teens, all over the United States, throwing dance parties to fundraise for ETP. Think of all the research we would be able to support. Let's influence our future by supporting today's cutting edge research. As a group, I think we would be so powerful!
Ready to join with me and choreograph your fundraising dance for ETP? You can tweak it any way you like to make it your own Purple Dance. Read on, and I'll tell you exactly what we did and give tips on getting started.

Marine Corps Marathon — Meet Team ETP Runner Michael Quesnel
|
My name is Michael Quesnel, the father of my beautiful daughter, Emmarose, who was diagnosed with epilepsy on February 13, 2009. We are told her case is atypical because of her age of 14 being first diagnosed. The first few years have been a roller coaster ride not just for Emmarose, but also for my son Nicholas, my wife Gayle, and for me. Through trial and error with several different medications, a medication was found that fits Emmarose just right; we are truly blessed. The current medication has not altered her wonderful personality, and yet has eliminated her daily seizures. Since being diagnosed, Emmarose participates in epilepsy awareness activities and fundraisers. She is now 16 years old, and has passed her driver's permit test, which is so exciting for 16 year olds. Entering her junior year in high school, she is looking forward to a wonderful year academically and as a defenseman on the varsity soccer team. Throughout all of this, she has been able to maintain a 4.0 GPA in high school, and plans on entering college in the Fall of 2013, in the medical field. The family picture on this page is from her Sweet Sixteen Birthday Party.
Now a little about me, a few years ago, I started running, and quickly grew a love of it for many reasons. First came the 5k runs, which led to 10ks, which led to ½ marathons which led to marathons. I am so proud and fortunate to participate in the Marine Corps Marathon, aka "The People's Marathon", in Washington D.C. on October 30, 2011 on Team ETP. The real heroes, besides our past, current and future service men/women, are the people who suffer everyday with Epilepsy.
I welcome your donation to sponsor my efforts in meeting my fundraising goal!
