Take control of your epilepsy and seizures. Seizure management has never been easier.

TAKE CONTROL TODAY

Change of Editor

On October 1, 2010 my term will be complete and I will step down as Editor-in-Chief of www.epilepsy.com. It has been a very fulfilling two years, but editorship is a time-consuming volunteer job, and so I have limited my commitment to two years. www.epilepsy.com is arguably the most effective way to communicate information to the epilepsy community. It has the largest viewership of any epilepsy-related website in the world, with over 250,000 unique hits per month. During my editorship, I have had the opportunity to post dozens of educational videos on the site, convey information in 24 monthly columns, update standing material on the site in many subject areas, and participate in the development of a groundbreaking Epilepsy Diary, which will enable a new way of tracking seizures, medications and side effects. The Diary was a joint effort with the very talented software firm, Irody, Inc. Log onto the diary at www.epilepsy.com/seizurediary if you have not already. In conjunction with Managing Editor, Robin Owen, I also had an opportunity to launch a unique type of journal, to my knowledge never before seen. Epilepsy: Insight & Strategies has produced four issues written, not by medical personnel, but by people with epilepsy and their families. These are the real experts in epilepsy as a chronic disease. The advice and perspective of the writers is deeply enriched by their personal experience. If you have not looked at the journal, please do so.

A website this complex requires a great deal of help to remain useful. I want to especially thank our webmaster, Karen Dredske, our Executive Vice President, Kim Macher, our hard-working President, Joyce Cramer, an excellent job of web hosting by ZooMedia, Inc., and the founding editor, Steven Schachter on whose shoulders I stood. Most of all I want to thank Warren Lammert, Chairman of the Epilepsy Therapy Project, owner of the website, for giving me this opportunity. This is a team that cares deeply about providing information and pioneering new treatments for people with epilepsy.

The new Editor-in-Chief is Dr. Joseph Sirven. He may be familiar to you as the current editor of the Professional section of professionals.epilepsy.com, where he has done a wonderful job of providing information for professionals who visit our site. In his day job, Dr. Sirven is Chair of Neurology at the Mayo Clinic in Phoenix. He is an epilepsy specialist and an experienced writer. The website will be in good hands. For me, this is not goodbye, because I plan to stay active on the site, just not at the helm. Thank you all for clicking in.
