On My Mind

Summary of Antiepileptic Drugs

There is no formula to choose which seizure medicine to use for a particular patient. No one medicine dominates for effectiveness, and all have various side effects. Doctors and patients choose AEDs after considering which side effects should be avoided in particular cases, convenience of use, cost and physician experience. An important start is to know which AEDs work for which seizure types.

Hosted by Justin, Rachelle and Peggy!

The event, called the "Yahtzee Run", is set for Saturday, September 12th, 2009. Organized by a team of three, Justin, Rachelle and Peggy, the Yahtzee Run will start in Northeast Nebraska. Motorcycles, Cars, Vans, and Trucks will all be rolling down the road for one thing—one really big and important thing—Epilepsy Awareness!

Justin shares, "…Riders will start out in Humphrey, Nebraska, and will make 4 stops along the way; rolling the dice, marking their scorecards and crossing the finish line in Columbus, Nebraska. The ride is scheduled from 1 pm to 4 pm, and at the end of the ride in Columbus there will be Food, a Raffle, 50/50 split pot, and best yet...Lots of Fun!

This event is just another example of our goal and passion to bring Epilepsy Research to the forefront. All proceeds from the event will be donated to the Epilepsy Therapy Project in support of finding new medicines and therapies to better the lives of those living with Epilepsy."

September FUNdraising Tip

Goal Setting

You should have decided if you are the kind of person who likes to work with a group or alone by now. If you have then you are ready for the next step in the FUNdraising process - Goal Setting. If you are going to work with other people, whether 1 other person or many other people, you should be setting a much higher goal than if you are working alone. hit your goalWe set goals to:

  • have something to strive for.
  • help us focus our time and effort.
  • provide motivation, persistence and desire
  • establish priorities
  • help us create a roadmap to get there

You can find lots of information on goal setting on the Internet, but one of the most common approaches to goal setting is that of setting SMART goals. SMART goals are:

  • Specific (answer Who? What? When? Where? Which? Why?)
  • Measurable (help you stay on-track)
  • Attainable (something that can really be done)
  • Realistic (something you are willing AND able to do)
  • Timely (provides you with a deadline to motivate action)

Throughout the rest of the month you will be able to find more information on setting goals in our community forum on fundraising. Next month we'll focus on making a plan or roadmap of your goals that will help YOU to make a difference and become an ETP Champion.
