Lamotrigine is now available in an extended release form, as Lamictal® XR™ in doses of 25, 50, 100 and 200 mg tablets. The extended release form is believed to provide more sustained blood levels in comparison with the standard lamotrigine forms. This may permit single daily dosing. The FDA also has approved a dissolvable form of Lamictal, in 25, 50, 100 and 200 mg strengths. The dissolvable form should be useful for people with swallowing problems. In other news, Valeant Pharmaceuticals announced the return of the old yellow-square Mysoline® (generic name, primidone), 250 mg tablets. For the past year, a different white round pill was used for primidone 250 mg, and this pill will be phased out over months. The change does not affect Mysoline/primidone 50 mg tablets.
