Welcome to the Showcase of Creativity

Because we know that every person affected by epilepsy has a creative and unique talent within themselves, we would like to provide the opportunity for expression.

  • If you are a painter or a poet we wish to hear from you.
  • If you write short stories, or essays, or song lyrics, or plays we wish to hear from you.

Last year we accepted poetry submissions for our Poetry Corner. This year we were inspired to expand our corner to a Showcase that can provide an opportunity for many more of you to participate. We received a story from Jane Jackson called "The Power Within You." It tells of her frightening account with seizures and how she came to a place in life that enabled her to help others.

Share with us your stories, your art, your poetry, your creativity. Our editorial team will look over all submissions and you will be notified as to when your piece might appear. Your work will become a feature on a rotating Showcase schedule basis. Please submit work to : webmaster@epilepsy.com

Showcase of Creativity

The Arts

Our editorial team will look over all submissions and you will be notified as to when your piece might appear as these will become a feature on a rotating Showcase schedule.

We are pleased to reprint here a poem that was selected from last year.

Ahead of Time

By Kathleen Grieger

I shave Sam’s head
After surgery, we look
The same. Glen says
It looks great,
He’ll do it next time
A safe promise for him

Finding I will need
A second surgery
I tell Glen
I’m looking forward
to seeing him shave

He says I’m mistaken,
He would never be bald
Sam laughs, telling Glen
You did say it
Sam remembers

It becomes a game
between us
Not expecting it,
I ask when he will shave
He answers, never

A week before surgery,
A group of friends around,
He asks me
To get the razor
He is “ready”

My brother sputters
“You don’t mean
It. Tell her you don’t
You can’t want to
She won’t make you”

I shear him
With the appreciation
of love. Sliding his hand
along the now slick
surface. Glen smiles

He says he likes it
He should not
have waited this long
Kissing my hand,
He places it on his head

I stroke it
It is smooth
He likes the feel of it
And I love the way
it has made me feel
