I take 800mg of Lamictal a day and I am losing hair. I want to get off Lamictal and onto another drug for the hair loss reason and because my seizures are not well controlled. When I was started on Lamictal years ago, I told my Dr I was depressed and he took me off of Dilantin and put me on Lamictal and told me that would help with depression. Ever since, my seizure frequency has increased, I'm still depressed, and I have more headaches. I'm not sure if it's because my Epilepsy has changed over the years or if it's the meds, but I know I was doing much better with my seizure control on Dilantin.

I've been taking 150mg Lamictal twice a day now for about 6 months. Side effects are pretty minimal but I have noticed my hair falling out more than usual. I'm a 24 year old male. I have been slowly losing my hair the past few years -- I'm going to lean towards the cause being genetic. Although, I have been taking Propecia for a couple years which has dramatically slowed the amount of hair lost. I have started taking Keppra in the past couple weeks and have looked into the side effects and haven't noticed hair loss as being one of them. Therefore I'm going to assume it's the Lamictal that could be causing it. Thankfully I'm slowly stepping up on the Keppra and will soon be stepping down off of the Lamictal. Sorry to hear that you're losing hair, believe me in saying you're not alone. Losing my hair has been one of my biggest stressors the past couple of years... it's a very hard thing to deal with, but eventually I'll have to accept it =)

Glad to hear Lamictal has your seizures under control, but if losing your hair is a big concern for you, I would try a different medication as there are many out there in which hair loss is not a side effect. The choice is yours!
