I have been on Keppra and then Keppra XR for a little over a year. Seizures started to get progressively worse post-pregnancy so I am switching to Zonegran. I also take Klonopin which seemed to be helpful in working with the Keppra to manage my seizures. The goal has always been to get me on a single medication if possible or supplement with Klonopin while I was pregnant and & b/c I still want to have another child. The dr. is switiching me to Zonegran and will then taper me off the Keppra XR. Right now I am still on Keppra XR while increasing my dosage of Z. I am finding that I am waking up several times at night, tossing and turning? I have a 9 month old infant and work full time so this is a challenge, has anyone else noticed this side effect with Zonegran or could it just be the combination of still being on all the med?? Thoughts, feedback??

I am glad I am not the only person with the problem!!!! Keppra would not allow me to sleep....not good for seizure...after a year, and a sleep study..my doctor change my meds back to topmax ( since we are trying to get pregnant), I am sleeping so much better, but my seizure are not in control so they are adding Zonergan, so far still sleeping!!! and 3 week seizure free
Im not sure about the Zonegran, but I have a very difficult time sleeping on Keppra. I have been taking 1250mg/day for two years and I notice that the trouble sleep (tossing and turning) is getting progressively worse. Hopefully when you get off the Keppra altogether it will get better. My heart goes out to you, working and a 9 month old is hard enough, especially since with us it is even more important that we get sleep to keep seizures under control.
Hoping for the best,
Jamie
My son has been taking Zonegran for years now, and takes it with Lyrica. He is a full time student in college, and at 22 yrs. old I know it's hard to get your rest and quiet your brain. He was just told about taking a supplement Melatonin 3 mg about 1 hour prior to going to sleep. He is sleeping through out the night, except for the nightly trips to the bathroom. He says it doesn't make him feel sleepy in the morning, or hard to get up! He was taking Lunesta and was told to get off of it! So, he was happy to find something other than Chamomile Tea!
You might want to check with your Neurologist or Pharmacist before taking Melatonin?
I wish you the very best!
