JME and mother to a toddler

Hoping someone out there can relate.  I have been searching all over this site(it is amazing) but haven't found any info/advice on how to safeguard your children when you have a seizure.  I was diagnosed with JME(juvenile myoclonic epilepsy) in summer of 2006 after first tonic clonic seizure.  I was 25.  Totally freaked me out and I immediately started thinking about my life and what my goals and dreams were.

I decided(along with my wonderful fiance) that I wanted a child immediately! lol  I was on 1000 mg/day of Keppra throughout entire pregnancy and with the exception of a bleeding scare in the 4th month had no problems.  I also decided to breastfeed my son who was born 18 days early, for 1 year.  He is developing above his age group in all areas except for verbal communication.

I recently changed Neuro(insurance changed) and medication was increased to 2000 mg/day.  Also found out that probability of break through seizures are likely and now I am freaking out all over again.  I thought as long as I was on the meds that i wouldn't have a seizure.  i am without any myoclonic seizures(ticks) and JME doesn't give warnings(auras) so now when I take my son to the playground i am so paranoid and anxious fearful of what would happen to him if I had a tonic clonic or absense seizure while there.  or Driving or during bath time or while feeding him or ALL THE TIME!  I do not want to revert back to staying home out of the fear of the unknown, but I will NOT jeopardize my sons safety either....please give my your input and if I rambled too much and something isn't clear ask me questions....

Hey there Fairy

Although its devastating to here that you can have seizure at any time, you have some control over this. I have JME as well. I realize this is hard being a mother but your best defence is taking care of yourself eat healthy, take your time to relax if you need it and get your sleep, yup i said get your sleep. If you have other triggers try to avoid those. And remember when you have done everything you can, thats all you can do. There is no reason to live in fear and hide out at your house. Why would be there for you if you actually had a seizure alone at home, no one. At least at the park there would be people to help you. With my seizures i find i get the jerks first before a large seizure happens so can use that as a warning to no do certain things, but youll find what works best for you. Take care of yourself and you can live a full and happy life.
