hormones and getting older

About 2 years ago I started getting a TC in the 24 hours before my period and worked out from my sezire diary I was sometimes getting a TC mid-cycle. I've been taking clobazam (frisium) for 4 nights every month around my period and that has stopped that sz which is great, though it's sometimes luck getting the dates right.

I'm 39 now, and I never had any szs directly the result of hormones until 2 years ago. There's also been other changes like my periods getting longer and in the last year I've suddenly got very fat around my middle. I can't blame the latter on my meds, and I'm not gaining weight, so it's either more loose flab from losing weight (I was left a real mess after severe weight gain on depakote) or something to do with getting older.

I'm a bit ignorant about hormonal changes with age, but it's obvious something is happening based on the sudden appearance of period-induced szs. I know I'm probably getting "middle age spread" but is that somehow related to hormone levels? I've asked my GP about getting hormone levels done to see what they're doing, but she seems to think it's a waste of time since there are no baseline levels to work from.

Anybody know anything about hormones and getting older?

Kay

Oh my goodness I pray that you read this kay69 because oh you so sound like myself it is not funny!!!! I began having seizures at 12 years of age when my period first started and I am now 39 years of age just as you are. I have my  Grand Mal seizures around my period and around my Ovulation time. Like you said getting the timing right somtimes does not work.I have had 33 Grand Mals in the past 2 years starting in Feb of 2007 until present. During the past 2 years I have had alot of firsts. I had 2 seizures that I did not get an aura before which has never happened until then and I have also had 2 in 1 day in July 2007 and that was a first as well. I am having the same issue as you with the weight gain thing. I went from a size 8 jeans to a 16 now and most of it is from my breasts to my thighs. Alot of people and Doctors think we are nuts if we try to relate Epilepsy to hormones but I am not crazy I wrote to John Hopkins where they are doing research on just that Epilepsy and hormones and they have put a name to it Catamenial Epilepsy. They are wonderful people to communicate with, they even called me and talked to me on the phone. After my 7th seizure at work they booted me out and said it wasn't safe for me there. I am trying for SSI Disability because with all of them I am having no where is safe for me I even have my house pretty much completly baby proofed and it is not 100% safe. Just like Jett Travolta (God Bless his parents) anything can happen whenever it wants to and we have no control over it. Please if you read this stay in contact with me I am a fellow Epileptic that is 39 single mother of 2 teenagers, unemployed and I live in Ohio. God Bless.

I am a mother 39 of two children every month I have seizures when my periods are due it is frustrating It upsets the rest of my month for a week as I know for that week my hormones go mad.  The doctors don't beleive you.  Thank god I have a good specialist but the mood swings don't help as this stresses me more and makes the petit mal fits worse.  I tried to tell my gp I am going through the change but he thought that was funny because my body patten had changed and had all the symptons of someone going through the change.  This might interest you found some research people with epilepsy can go through the change earlier but be warned gps don't believe in latest research still fighting my gp.
