I am frightened to go to a Greek Festival with some friends due to a very different seizure I had last night. I really want to go but I'm afraid I might have one. I know I'd be home before 9:00 p.m. and all my seizures have been either after 9:00 p.m. (that's most of them) or at latest in late morning but I'm just really nervous. What are some self-talk things you all do when you get nervous? Because deep inside I knew I'd regret staying home, but I'm having a hard time right now. (Last night I got "paralyzed", saw everything, but couldn't speak and heard disembodied music and felt someone rubbing me with a toilet brush).

been there, other than the other people around. the self talk is not talking. i use visual techs. favorite things. dogs, mountians, wind. i tell myself a story based on what i see in my mind. the other things i do, via my doc. is meds related to the anxiety. it has helped me. the other thing is that is will/may decrease your ability to to enjoy things to the fullest. becaused of the meds. for me it works, and beats staying at home. the other thing that has proven helpful is to chill out/nap/rest prior to going. my seizures are for the most part at night. as you are doing don't let this stop your life. protect yourself. card, medic alert, company with you, one thing i do is keep a cell with me when i am out of the house. i have a note on the back to look up epilespy, and i have put all the contact information in the cell. hope it helps. hollar,
I am healthy. It was later, so it was normal of sorts, just different. I'm a little less nervous, I just keep thinking "what if's". I jogged today so I feel somewhat better, but I'm worried i won't feel like going by tomorrow night, and I really want to go.
It is hard to say. Do you feel healthy but fearful? Have you talked with your doctor about this? It is perfectly normal for a person to feel fearful because that is one of the things that protects us. If I get nervous or anxious I recognise it for what it is and try to focus on something else. Exercise or a walk, especially with other people, can distract from nervousness. Sometimes we have false fears and they can be "starved out" by a person deciding that they choose not to be fearful of them.A person has the power to decide how theyare going to respond to the fears. They can be nervous or optimistic and say "I am in control, this is not in control of me." Of course a little rest may be all that is needed to eliminate the fear too. I wish you well.
