I'm a newbie, but in the year since I've been diagnosed I've been on a litany of meds. I finally have it down to one med - Lamictal. It has helped with my seizures, but not completely controlled them. I have a new neuro (due to a cross country move) and she is tritrating my dosage up. So, after taking Lamictal for almost 6 months I seemed to have an allergic reaction. The only drug that has changed is my increasing Lamictal. Is it possible to have an allergic reaction after taking a med for 6 months? My face turned bright red and hot, my pulse was racing and my blood pressure went through the roof. I starting itching on my arms and legs and it felt like I wanted to jump out of my own skin. I also had a very sore throat (this may not be connected). All of this happened within 30-45 minutes after taking an increased dose of Lamictal. The reaction stopped about 3 hours after taking the med. Does this sound like an allergic reation? Also, my seizures ALWAYS increase with any drug changes - including just dosage changes. Is this normal?
Thanks in advance for any info!

Hi, My name is Bryan. I have been taking Lamictal for about 6 months. I switched to the generic last week, and about 3 hours after taking my second dose, I had the same reactions. I went to the emergancy room, and my blood presure was 164 over 106. I had skin rashes all over my arms and legs, and I also had A sore throat. The dermotolgist verified it was an elergic reaction to my meds. I don't know if it was A one time thing, or if it was becouse I switched to the generic. My neorologist had me switch back to the name brand. The sore throat has went away, but I had to use some lotion the doctor gave me for the dry skin. I take 100Mg twice A day. I hope this helps.
Here is a link to the Lamictal site:

The link I posted is to the side effects page.
I have been on lamictal since being diagnosed with it when i was 16 and have never had any reaction to it at all, doesn't always control my seizures tho.
My daughter had an allergic reaction to lamictal at the start of taking it. The dr. sent her to an allergist. He had her take claratin d once every 24 hrs for a few days. It must be carefully controlled, but it worked. Several days later the rash subsided totally. So you might ask about something like that to help you. Good luck with that.
BE CAREFUL!!!!
Lamictal does have a very risky drug allergy reaction. There is a rash reaction that you can get from the medication. There is a chance that it does not occur until your dose increases. The reaction can be fatal. You need to contact your doctor immediately and explain what you reaction was and see what they say.
Many people can get an allergy from the drug. I did get the reaction. I started out with a rash on my chest and then it spread throughout my body. I caught it fast enough that it didn't do any real harm. But please contact your doctor right away. !!!!!!!!!
Let me know if you have any other questions about it that I can help you with
