I have posted on here it seems like a million times and I always get good advise. My 10 year old son was seizure free for nine months and now this month he has had three more seizures. Same thing occured last September so that makes me think is there something with the changing climate this time of year???
We called his Dr. after his first seizure and he said to up his dosage to 500 mg of keppra in the am and in the pm. He was already taking 500 mg in the pm and only 250 in the am. Since my son has BRE and has only had seizures during sleep i do not see the benefit of giving him the extra medication in the am. I thought it would make more sence to split the extra dosage between the am and pm. 375 mg in the am and 625 in the pm. Am I wrong in thinking this or not. Should we question the Dr. on this? We are actually seeing a new Dr. on October 13th so maybe we should see what he has to say about it.

my daughter takes keppra too. she will be 2 in 2 months. they had my daughter on 1 pill in the morning and 1 and a half in the evening. and she started to have seizures so they told me 1 1/2 in the morning too. they told me it was to give her a constant level of keppra in her body. cause then it is constantly stopping the seizure signal and isnt lightening up on it. it seems to be working very well for my daughter!
We seen the new doctor and now he tells us to do 250 mg in the am and 750 mg in the evening after the other doctor said 500 mg twice a day. AARRGGHHH. I am so confused with thiese doctors. I think we are going to stick with the 500 mg twice a day and see how he does. I do not like the idea of that much of a difference between the dosages. he has only had 11 seizures in 19 months so he is fairly well controlled. Some reason September has been the bad month in those 19 months with half of the seizures happening then.
Thanks for the input.
I take 1500 mils of Keppra in the a.m. 1500 in the evening. I also take 200mils of lamictal in the a.m. and p.m. and 900 mils of trileptol in the a. m. and 900 in the p.m...... 4200 mils total. I was told that these are all time release. This may be part of the reason why the doses are different in your case. I find that if I am off by a few hours in the a.m. and p.m. or if I go to bed earlier or later, then I have events. I think that because children have different sleep patterns, doctors take that into account.
Getting low bone density from being on tegretol for 24 years my neuro is transitioning me to Keppra. I've been taking 1500mg of Keppra for 3 weeks so I lowered my tegretol from 800mg to 600mg starting today.
From all the reading I've done on Keppra it seems as though I'm not taking enough. I'm wondering if 1500mg of Keppra will be enough for a 160 lb. male?
Has anyone else controlled their seizres with 1500mg of Keppra or less?
I've controlled my seizures excellently on 375 mg/day Keppra and I am a 225 lb male.
