Hi.
My name is Anna, and I have had Complex-partial seziures for the last 3 years with no known cause. I am a 26 year old woman who has been and continues to be in general good health. I had my first seizure (a grand mal w/ very severe convulsions) in August of 05 after I turned 24. Since then, I amon 3 different anti-convulsants (Lamictal 500mg, Phenytoin, 500mg, and Keppra 2000mg daily) as well as 1mg of Folic Acid daily. I have not had confulsions since November 2007, but i continue to wake up once a month with my lip bitten and chewed right before my period. I have been on the list for possible surgery at my local hospital for a year, and have just had the WADA Test on June 20, 2008. I saw my neurologist and his attending on July 3, 2008, and they are now trying to set up a date that they can have a conference with him, the eptoligist, the neuropsychiatrists, and the neurosurgeon, to determine whether or not my surgey can be done. I would like to have the procedure done and would like to know if anybody has had the WADA done about how long and what they were told when the doctor's and you or your loved oe made thier decisions. Any information wouls be greatly appreciated. Thank you!

this is great news, i was very scared when all that was going on & there are others who understand. about a week after the test i was in with the nero & the risks were given. when they asked where we wanted to go, the emotional & mental part was already to the pass of no return. if they said yes that would also be my answer. it is amazing the feeling that you have when don't hae fear of "what" happened last night. best wishes & of luck.
keep in touch..

Hello,
My name is Debbie, my son Jeremy is 21 years old has had grand mal seizures for the last 3 1/2 years due to a snow boarding accident. He too has been going through all the testing including the Wada Test on June 24,2008 to determine if he is a candidate for surgury. We are patiently waiting to hear from the doctors for an answer this week. He just had another grand mal seizure 2 weeks ago while surfing"Thank God" he was not under water and had friend with him to assist him. He was admitted to the hospital bcause they thought he had swallowed water. He is on 1600mg Tegretol and 400mg Zonagran. He will go 5, or 6 even 8 months then all of the sudden he will have a major grand mal seizure. The scary part is he has no warning he will be seizure free for long enough periods allowing him to be able to drive. Now he is back to square one no driving and no surfing.
Jeremy and his family just want the problem fixed once and for all!
This process for determining surgery is long and frusterating.
I hope you find out real soon about your surgery.
I know as a mother I want stop until they fix my son.
I would love to hear back from you.
Debbie
I'm ready to try anything, Epilepsy has taken control of my life. Mine didn't start until later in life, and really messed up any plans of anything I wanted to do at that stage of my life. I was in my 20's, and any plans of joining the military I had were shattered. Life ever since my Epilepsy started has been a series of ups and downs, most of them down.
ALWAYS REMEMBER- all of us who are going through this now or have gone through this already are unique cases so take what you get here with a grain of salt.
Depends on what epilpsy center you're at. I should note what I went through was twelve years ago and my epileptologist recently said things have changed a lot since. Speaking from my own experience at a center in southern california, doctors looked at the Wada data and prior data (telemetry, depth electrode, PET, etc.) and decided to run an MEG and finally a subdural grid. My own Wada showed memory fuction was better than anticipated but tests done to localize the focus just weren't up to par for my epileptologist. In the end, I did not get a right temporal lobectomy but think it was the best decision. Sure, I experienced grief like anyone else would but reached acceptance of the decision.
i have had 2 brain surgeries and they worked
best of luck

Thank you Victoria. If you don't mind me asking, how old are you and what kind od surgery did you have? Mine will be done on my Left Temporal lobe if my doctors think it can be done. Since I am so young (26) I was told that I am at a very high succsess rate. The neurosurgeon that will be performong the procedure has a 70% success rate and mine will be much higher because of my age and my good health. I have good faith in him, he is at West Virginia University Hospital and is the only person that does this procedutre in WV and therefore has had a lot of experience. Bless you and thank you for your comment.
