hi i'm new to this website
i was recently diagnosed with Epilepsy and i have a lot of questions so heres a sorry in advanced for writing to much lol
well it started on a thursday i was feeling like i had a cold coming on so i took a fluetab for it.. about 20 minutes later i was sitting at the dinner table and i was getting ready to leave the room so i stood up and i got this strange feeling i thought maybe i stood up too fast so i stood there for a few seconds till i got my balance back.. when i did i walked to the door and i was ready to walk out and then i suddenly started having blurry vision and i felt a little nervous that came outta no where then i just fell back.. i dont remember hitting the floor or even remember feeling myself hit the floor.. i could hear myself making strange noises but i werent trying to they just were coming out.. i couldnt understand everything that was going on infront of me and i couldnt understand everything i heard either.. i saw my aunt rush to me i could hear my mom somewhere screaming.. then the next thing i know it was like someone changed the channel i saw my brother standing over me pouring water over my face. i went to the hospital they said nothing was wrong with me and that i was having a slight cold but that was it.. two days later i got up in the morning with a headache and i kept having shocking pains in my head like electric shocks.. i stayed like that till around 7 in the afternoon and i couldnt take the pain any more my head started to pound and the electric feeling kept coming so i took a panadol for it.. again after 20 minutes maybe 30 at the most the samething happend again but this time right b4 the fit i would get this suddent terrifying fear outta no where and then i would fall back and hit my head on the floor.. but this time it happend 2 times right after eachother only 10 minutes apart.. i was rushed to the hospital after the second fit i couldnt move i was so tired my heart was racing i couldnt even hold my eyes open and i got to the hospital and and i was admitted for three days there and i had another 2 fits while i was there even though i didnt take anymore medicine after that.. after three days the doctor diagnosed me with focal (partial)epilepsy.. i started on lamictal took it for two weeks but didnt work for me it just made me have bad tremors and very bad rash and other side effects.. so my doctor switched me to Keppra wich i'm still on now.. i've been on it for 2 months now and i only had 2 fits afte i started taking it.. but one of the last to fits were kinda different i started having stiffness in my left arm and my teeth were clenched and i remember right b4 i fell my foot started to twist inward.. the last one i had was a few hours ago but it lasted barely 20 seconds.. the thing is last month i went to get a second opinion and had another EEG done and the doctor told me i wasnt having Epilepsy and i was suffering from migraines and started to take me off my medicine.. but when he tried to take me off my medicine thats when i had the fit.. so i went to get a third opinion to see what was going on and so the third doctor had me do two more EEG's and they all also came up normal.. and he said i could possibly not have migraines and its all from stress..he said when people have seizures they do not fall backwards and that racing heartbeat and heavy breathing doesnt happen during a seizure.. but i'm not and I REPEAT i'm NOT stressed out from nothing.. i saw a psychiatrist that only saw me for 5 minutes and was ready to put me on two diffrernt anti-depressent(how could she judge from 5 minutes?) i refuse to take it though.. i've decided to stick with my first doctor who diagnosed me with Epilespy in the first place and i just wanted to ask a person who has epilepsy for a while now "Does this sound like a seizure? is this Epilepsy?" sorry for writing to much but i would really really appreciate ur answers..
thanx!

I am not a professional, but after 38 years of living with epilepsy, and then 15 years of my son's epilepsy, I would say yes, you do have epilepsy. Remember, epilepsy is a general term. It is defined as more than one unexplained/ uncontrolled episode where the person loses consciousness or is unaware of his or her surroundings for a period of time. Everyone is different. What triggers my seizures, may not trigger yours. Some people with epilepsy have physical reasons for their seizures, others have chemical reasons. What controls one person, does not always control others. What's more, there are many different types of seizures.Every doctor will be slightly different, and have different names for your seizures. Find someone you trust who is up to date on the latest research and meds. The one thing I think you are lucky about is that you may have an aura. You also may have definite triggers which may help you avoid having uncontrolled seizures. My best advice is for you to keep a diary. Not only should you write down what you remember, but what any witnesses remember. The time frame should include before, during and after. Given time, this info will help you and your doctor figure things out.
good morning krystle and welcome to our website..............sorry to hear about your aaahhhh seizures..........sounds like some of the same symptoms i've had .......getting up too fast and feeling dizzy....having a bad headache afterwards......not remembering what happened..... find a dr whom u trust and stick with them......i've had sz since i was 16 and now i'm well old enough.... i been thru all the cr ap......please stay on your meds and get enough to eat and get enough sleep......u said stress wasn't an issue so that's good.......it's your body so get the proper care for it from a good dr.......again welcome to our website and god bless......scratch
You mentioned "heart was racing"
Have you had a check for "long qt", I have been diginoses with brugada, men usually get brugada and woman get "long qt", the racing heart is a sign of it plus other things. Were you to go for a check up ask your doc for a check for it, a trained eye should see it in your ecg, on an attack i usually fall and hit the floor heavy, doing so helps. but i have been know to jerk and pull faces like a person with epilepsy.
long qt is also known as adult sudden death and is a lot more common then many think.

Has any of the Neurologist suggested the drug Topamax? It is used for both Epilepsy AND Migraines. My son has both...both have very similar symptoms and are hard to differentiate. The Topamax has been working well for us!
hi well my doctor wouldnt prescribe Topamax for me coz he said that that electric shocking feeling i get, they noticed in other patients it just increased so he put me on Keppra instead.. Keppra has been working for me good though so i'm not worried about the medication lol.. thanx for ur reply
It sounds like it to me, I've had it for about the past 15 years, and tried just about every drug for Epilepsy there is. Try to make sure you take your meds at the same time every day to keep your med level where it's supposed to be, eat right, and get plenty of rest. Taking care of myself properly is one of the most important things I've found to make sure I don't have seizures. I wish you luck.
