TAKE CONTROL TODAYGood afternoon! For those of you using vitamin B6 or have children using it, I wanted to ask this question. Do you take it in one large lump or do you spread it out over the course of the day? Eg. 150 mg in the am or 50 mg breakfast, lunch, and dinner.
I have two children on Keppra who the neuro has given instruction to start B6 for both. She said I could do it either in one dose or spread out. It seems to me that it would be best spread out, but I do not know if vitamins need to stay leveled out in the bloodstream the way medicinces do.
Thanks!
Jean

I am on Keppra since this past July and I have been instructed by the Nuero to take 500 mg a day broken up. It has helped a lot with the side effects of Keppra. Now I need to hope that the Keppra continues working well as I adjust my levels. Anyone else have something they do for the level of agitation it creates??
Thanks,
Rose
mY son takes only 10 mg in the morning. He's 2 yo. Taking the B6 seems to help his impulse control ( I know, he's two, but you have to see it to believe it) And, the week he started taking B6 his teacher said, "I don't know what you're doing, but he started talking!" It was like a light went on.
I did feel like he was acting strange in his sleep, so stopped giving him B6 at night.
B6 is quickly elminiated by your body, so I think it would be best to spread it out.
Hi Jean,
I have been using vitamin B6 for over 38 years to control my seizures. AEDs have never had any positive effects on my seizures.
My seizure medication now consists of B vitamins (mainly B6) only.
Here is my story: http://braintalkcommunities.org/forums/showthread.php?t=36549&page=4
Vitamin B6 saved my life as a young child. A daily intake of vitamin B6 is preventing me from entering status epilepticus.
It is best to spread B6 out over the day.
DO NOT ALTER ANY MEDICATION WITHOUT YOUR DOCTOR'S CONSENT.

Andrew
Hi Jean,
My son Jack is on Keppra and takes a B6 vitamin. We give it to him all at once. He takes 100 mgs at breakfast. I never thought about spreading it out. It seems to help him through-out the day. He is not overly emotional in the evening or anything. He has been seizure free since we started him on the Keppra and B6 combo....over 6 months.
Hope our feedback helps.
Take care,
Sheri (Jacksmom)
Hi Sheri,
May I ask what type of B6 you're using -- if it's pyroxidine or P5P? We're brand new to al this but I'm hearing that P5P is better absorbed.
Thanks and take care, Maria
Hi Maria,
I had to look as I wasn't sure. He is on Pyroxidine. I've never heard that there are different types of B6. Thats very interesting. What Jack has been taking seems to be working for him so thats good. :)
Good luck,
Sheri
My son is on keppra, lamicatal and now gabitril. He's was on b-6 for a year and we ran out in early December. Then he started having breakthoughs. Along with a medicine change, we also decided to get him back on b-6. The neuro suggested the amount and time of day to dispense. We also thinks it helps with his energy and moods.
I am on Keppra and was well-controlled. I started B6 and had two seizures in the first two weeks. I stopped it and things got better again. I'm not seizure-free but I go for long periods without seizures. Two in as many weeks just seemed like it was lowering my seizure threshold.
