Insomnia and anxiety with seizures

I have complex partial & simple partial seizures and when I have seizures I have this extreme anxiety and insomina. Now I only experience this when I have the complex partial seizures. I start to feel this anxiousness as the sun sets and I feel it all night until the sun rises. I feel that I have to keep the TV on because I don't want to be in the quiet dark. I'll put my TV on sleep timer, but as soon as it shuts off I wake up and have to turn it back on. When I do fall asleep it's maybe for an hour at the most but usually I doze for about 15-20 minutes at a time throughout the night. I usually have a seizure during the night or first thing in the morning. I was wondering if anyone else experiences anything like this and if so how do you deal with the loss of sleep and the anxiety? Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks!

I have to take Lorazapam at night to calm me, my anxiety is so high at night.  It's the only thing that helps. I've tried to get off it but I acutally started having more seizures.  I have complex partial seizures and I take Tegretol and Topomax.

I'm ip right now because seizuresare waking me up every 45 minutes.  Good ideas from other posters.  I'm calling my nuero in the morning.  Thanks, all!

I've had my partial seizures for 8 years now, and I frequently experience this. It is quite frustrating and it never seems to get easier. I have to try new things all the time because sometimes previous 'cures' for the anxiety doesn't work and I have to think of something else. Mostly I just keeping trying to relax and even meditate sometimes and keep trying to force my mind to be still and think calming, soothing things. Kind of like talking myself into feeling calm and relaxed so I can sleep. When that doesnt work I play a game that doesn't take any brain power, like Dr. Mario untill I fall asleep. I don't know what I'd do without that game. lol. Its easy enough that I don't have to think much, but requires enough attention to block out everything else, including how I'm feeling. Having a seizure in the night is real rough. Being tired from the day is bad enough when u cant sleep, but having a seizure on top of that just makes me feel like I got plowed over by a raging big rig. Good luck finding ur 'soothing' routine. :)

I'm just now figuring out I'm epileptic (after 30+ years), but after my bout of seizures last week I found that an epsom salt bath got rid of almost ALL of my anxiety in about 30 minutes. I'm still having some insomnia, but at least the anxiety is under control now.

Give it a try. Make sure you drink lots of water during the bath and be sure you read the directions... people with diabetes and high blood pressure probably shouldn't use epsom salts.

Have you talked to your neurologist about not sleeping.  Lack of sleep causes stress and stress lowers the seizure threshold.   If you are not sleeping, maybe your doc could write for something for sleep and to help control the nocturnal seizures.

I had a check up at Houston Eye Center (Houston Lasik Surgery ) a little while ago. They were really great and the doctor didn't sell me glasses I apparently didn't need (some other doc sold me bifocals when I was 30!) and I never used.

Anyway, I would recommend them. I was in and out quick and had a good exam.
