Hi everyone,
I have another question for all of you. I have read in your conversations many times, that it is important to take certain vitamins to help control seizures. I would like to know which vitamins and amounts etc are important to help with seizures? We are going to the doctor soon and I would like to bring this up at our visit (and know what I'm talking about). Thanks
Penny

I heard Omega 3 fatty acids are good for seizures, mainly because they are essential for brain health in general. I eat fatty fish 3 to 4 times a week, and that's the best way to get your omega 3's. The best fatty fish to eat are Salmon, Mackerel, Herring, and Anchovies. Other fish that have omega 3's are tuna and cod.
Having an Omega 3 supplement though may not be bad for a fill in.
About other vitamins I am myself just learning. But I have very well controlled seizures with my medication. Of course I'm not going to mess with my meds but taking some supplements to compliment medicine isn't a bad idea.

Hi Jessica,
You are right on the mark.I just came back from a holistic Dr that recommended the following supplements for me to fight the ill effects of the prescription drugs I take (Zonisamide & Lamictal). Carlson fish oil.I take it in liquid form because I don't want to take all those tablets since I take mega doses of it. He also put me on vitamin D-3 which anti convulsant drugs rob the body of.This I was never aware of and I am 41 years old! I have been to countless neurologists and they never told me this. The question is are they even aware of it?And lastly,I was put on mega doses of Folic Acid for good brain health. Here are the doses. Please note,I am a 41 YO male that weighs 168 LBS.
Carlson Fish Oil (Liquid Lemon Flavor) - 1 TBS a day
Carlson Vitamin D-3 2000 IU - 2 Caps a day
NSI Folic Acid 1 MG/1,000 MCG - 4 Caps a day
I am NOT prescribing anything to anyone here.I am just sharing what I was put on so everyone can do there research for some ideas that I am positive your neurologists are not sharing with you.I wish all of you the best of health. My prayers are with everyone.
I take Carbatrol and Phenobarbitol. I heard Phenobarb robs your body of calcium, my neurologist told me that. Luckily he was honest. He also said my medication makes me prone to depression, which I kindof have a mild case of. Do you know of any herbs/supplements that can help with depression? I can't take St John's Wort, it'll interfere with Phenobarbitol. It stinks. And I seriously don't want to go back on to prescription anti-depressants. They have to many side effects and they are synthetic.

Hello
I take a multivitamin that is supposed to be for people prone to mild depression. It has more B vitamins than other multivitamins. I also take calcium & magnesium in one tablet. I also take vitamins D (1000 I.U.)& E(400 I.U.) and Ginkgo. As a precaution I also take a time-release B-Complex 100 and a sublingual B12, 3000 mcg. I have a family history of depression and I have been prone to seasonal depression in the past. This year I feel just fine. The only meds I take are tegretol 400 mg/day.

Take Care Dee-Dee
Hi! I am curious of the Granules that you have mentioned.
Thanks! Anna
I also take a multivitamin daily and folic acid was also advised. Another vitamin that is apparently essential - especially to women is vitamin K. I also make sure I get enough vitamin C. I must say it is quite a handfull of pills each morning

MLB, I have had very good success with omega three. I take the capsules but a very small amount. I got rid of 234 auras a month and nine seizures a month. I take capsules but they say the oil is better which is suppose to be taken with cottage cheese or yogurt. I have taken it in the past and I just dont feel like dealing with the oil.
best of luck

Hello, I was taking Neurontin 300mg cap, Dilantin 1000mg, cap Lamictal 1000mg, and 25mg and I was reading your messages and I stated taking Vitamin B-12 500 mcg, Calcium Plus with Magnesium & Vitamin D, Fish Oil 300 mg Omega-3s and they seem to be working but after a month I had 3 seizures and I was wondering if anyone could suggest which vitamins and what mgs would be more effctive. take care
Hi, I have been using vitamin B6 for over 37 years to control my seizures. My medication now consists of all eight B vitamins only. AEDs have never had any positive effects on my seizures.
Here is my story with some useful links: http://nse-forum2.jamkit.com/viewtopic.php?t=14802
