Trazadone and Keppra

Tue, 04/28/2015 - 18:02

Hello all,

I've been taking Keppra for about a month and overall, it's been a great experience. The only down side is that I've recently started dealing with insomnia. My guess is that it has to do with the medicine because falling and staying asleep has never been an issue for me. I called my neurologist to talk about it and she suggested a sleep aid, I believe she said it is Trazadone. I asked her about melatonin, as I would rather start off with something a little more "natural" before going the Trazadone route. She said sure and explained how melatonin works. Just in case I decide to take the Trazadone, does anyone have experience with taking Keppra and Trazadone and can you share how it worked for you? I take Keppra 2 times a day (500 mg tablets). The Trazadone will be 50 mg. Thank you!

While I haven't taken the medication you have posted I do know that natural things are better especially if they work. However if you neurologist has suggested you take trazadone then she has patients who are taking it along with keppra. I have always asked my neurologist questions and one is always " Do you have other patients that take this medication and what other medications are other patients taking that would work like this one" So I do get answers about his other patients and other medications that can be coupled with my keppra. I hope this helps Joe

I take Keppra750mg twice a day and Trazadone 100mg nightly without any problems.  Just allow yourself time in the morning to make sure that you are fully awake before doing anything that requires your full attention in case you get a "hang-over" effect.
