Tegretol & Pregnancy

Sun, 03/04/2007 - 04:05
I have been taking Tegretol for 7 mths and have so far remained seizure free while on it. I am thinking of becoming pregnant within the next 3 mths and would like some advice or to hear of others who have been in a similiar situation. I had originally wanted to stop taking the Tegretol but after hearing from a few of you on here I have decided against that. I know realise how it would be silly of meto think that I could stop taking it and everything would be ok. I am very concerned about having a baby while on meds, but have heard that a lot of peole have had very healthy babies while on their meds. I am feeling very tired and weak on tegretol and am worried what I'll be like when pregnant, as I know I was very tired with my first pregnancy and I'm wondering if I could cope while on meds. Is their anyone else who has taken Tegretol while pregnant? Or any advice for me on this.

Well I wrote a nice long

Well I wrote a nice long comment for about an hour at work but this p.o.s. site deleted it in the process of forcing me to sign up in order to comment. So to sum it up, the research shows pregnancies are not nearly as horrifying as pamphlets and some doctors may have you thinking. And with your miscarriage which I'm so sorry, age and lack of preparation likely played a bigger roll then the medication itself. Unfortunately because of the vitamin supplement required for safe pregnancy on the medication, which is still because of the medication, I know. But knowing now and preparing you should have a safe happy pregnancy and here's sending good wishes - Angel

I've been taking tegretol and Keppra when I found out I was pregant the doctors told me all the same thing about birth defects and I'm happy to say I have a very healthy four year old. Yes Tegretol does make u tired but as long as u don't  push yourself or try and sweat the little stuff you'll be fine

You should not take medicines

You should not take medicines without prescription and taking tegretol for straight 7 months can be dangerous. You should ask your doctor about which medicine to take during pregnancy because she must know your condition better.
