Seizures, medications, and high levels of progesterone

Tue, 10/11/2016 - 18:15
Hello, I was diagnosed with epilepsy when I was six years old. I always saw a trend through middle school and high school that led me to believe I had catamenial epilepsy. When I was 18 years old I had left temporal lobectomy and went a little over 2 months without a seizure. My total seizure count when down tremendously so I do not regret going through with the procedure. But after the surgery I started to have seizures once a month around the same time(during my menstrual cycle). I was then prescribed clonazepam to take only 2 mg the week of my period. I tried it but then I started needing it more frequently or I would start having a seizure. So now I'm taking 0.5 mg of clonazepam a day along with 800 mg of carbatrol a day. After I started taking the clonazepam there began to be a change on when I would have the seizures. I now have a seizure once a month during ovulation. It's like clockwork, the same day of the cycle every time. I now have gone through 2 neurologists and 3 hormone doctors that have said "they have never seen anything like my case and can't help me" My progesterone levels are at a 13 (usually what you see during first trimester of pregnancy), my uterine wall is thickened 5x the usual size of a normal menstrual cycle, I have cysts on my ovaries, and my LH and FSH and are spread so far apart when they are suppose to be around the same levels (LH= 2 and FSH= 10). My hormone specialist said at my levels it would be a miracle if I was pregnant. I had a pregnancy test done and it came out negative. I have read all these studies that progesterone raises the seizure threshold. So why is it that my levels are way too high during the week I am most likely to have a seizure? Anyone else experienced having high progesterone levels (not pregnant) and having seizures? I'm really beginning to think it might be the medication I'm taking that has been messing up my hormone levels. I don't know, any thoughts on this issue will be greatly appreciated. All my neurologists worship the medicine they prescribe. They aren't helping me to try to get off of clonazepam that I have admitted being addicted to.
