Pregnant with epilepsy

Sat, 09/26/2015 - 06:37
I am currently 12 weeks pregnant. Which was a surprise. I have simple partial seizures and clonic tonic seizures. My simple partial have become so bad they affect me daily. My Dr has increased my meds and hopefully I'll be under control soon. I'm finding it difficult to find a group or other women to talk to. My boyfriend thinks he knows what I'm going through. He has no clue. His answer is I sleep too much. I'm just looking for support from people who understand. I know there has to be more then just me that feel so alone. If anyone has any advice or just thoughts I'd lobe to hear them. Maranda

Back in 1978 I got pregnant

Back in 1978 I got pregnant although I was on birth control. Ten years later it was found that Dilantin and the Pill counteract each other  which is why I did and also why by my child was born with no defects from the Dilantin. There are now many anti-epileptic drugs which will not hurt the child but if you try to go off your meds it would hurt you both. You are fortunate that your seizures can be controlled so be happy for the medications which do. If you had any other condition such as diabetes you would never try to do without the meds for it. Because it is your brain you probably feel you should be able to control it but you must realize you can't. It took me 4 tries to go without and 4 resulting hospital stays to accept this also
