Planning pregnancy. Need advice from epilepsy moms!

Sun, 04/12/2015 - 17:47

Hi,

I am 27 years old, have had epilepsy since I was 6. Currently taking Tegretol ( 400 + 400 ) and having seizures once in couple of months.

I am planning pregnancy for the first time and I talked with my neurologist about it - he advised me to take out the Tegretol and start taking Lamal ( as one option for safer medicine). So I wonder if any of your experiences can tell is it a good thing to change the medicine recently before getting pregnant and is really Lamal much safer medicine then Tegretol!?

Also can any of you epilepsy moms share your pregnancy experience with me - what medicine you took during pregnancy, how often you had seizures, how the seizures affected your pregnancy, what advices your neurologist gave you etc.

Any opinion, advice, share of experience would be helpful. Only epilepsy moms can understand how important planning of pregnancy it is and how important and necessary are advices in this period.

Thanks in advance.

I am so sorry to hear about your situation. What medication are you currently taking? Have you been diagnosed with a specific type of epilepsy? I really hope that someone in that area can reach out and help you. I don't have children, but I know what it's like to have uncontrolled seizures. Well done for getting this far and keep looking for alternatives!
