Personality change after multiple seizures.

Wed, 08/17/2016 - 14:31
Hi, I have been having seizures for years. About a month ago I had a seizure that escalated into multiple seizures and I was hospitalized. My doctor increased my dose of Keppra XR and also put me on Qudexy. Ever since then I have found myself having issues with my feelings towards my boyfriend, and friends in general. I don't want to talk to him and my affection towards him is basically gone. We have only been dating a few months but I really liked him and I don't understand why this is happening. Is it the meds? Is it all the seizures? I have never had so many in one episode (It was about 5 or 6 in a couple of hours). I have always felt strange after having a seizure but it typically goes away or I can work through it. I also feel angry and frustrated and when I'm not feeling that way, I feel sad. It is annoying because I know my family and friends, not to mention my boyfriend, is completely and 100% there for me. I don't know how to tell them that I am not feeling the same way towards them right now. I don't want to be the only one who has ever felt this way. Thank you, Milo11

MiloWhat you had when you had

MiloWhat you had when you had those 5-6 seizures was a cluster. They drain energy and do take time to get back to normal. For many people the seizures along with your personal feelings can cause issues you seem to have at times. Call your neurologist and discuss the seizures with them. I say that because there are medications that can be taken after the first seizure that stops the clustering. For some people that are called rescue medications.  When that happens you get back to normal and do not have the issues you had. But at the same time carry it but if you have someone with you like your BF then have him carry it to just in case you can't get to the ones you carry. You might also check the side effects of the Qudexy.
