Lamictal and Menstrual Cycles

Fri, 08/14/2015 - 14:21

Hello everyone!

I am a 28 year old female and I started having seizures in November of 2014. I had been on birth control for about 9 years and had gone off of that about 3 months before I started having seizures. I am currently taking Lamictal 150mg twice a day and I have been having a horrible time with my menstrual cycle where in the beginning I was only having it once every six weeks and now I am on my cycle for about 2 weeks at a time and they are only 2 weeks apart. Has anyone else had this issue? My husband and I just got clearance to have a baby but it will be difficult if this keeps up. If you have had this problem was there anything that you did to try to get your cycle back on track?

Thanks for your time!

On lamactil now for 7 years.

On lamactil now for 7 years. Went from 100mg to 600mg for absent seizures. I had to come off for 20 weeks in 2012 while I was pregnant with twins. They said it could have caused birth defects. I had a lot of siezures while off (babies where fine) It saddens me deeply that I also have extreme menstrual issues where I go as long as 2 weeks every month. I have seen a GYN on different occasions and nothing is wrong. It's the ONLY medication I'm on. Can I come off and still be siezures free?
